That's a nice sentiment and all, but politicians doing things (or claiming to do things) is inherently political.

And sorry if it hurts anyone's feelings but the title "President Trump Saves College Sports" is clownish and the type of claim we should expect from North Korea, not the United States of America. This isn't normal, we shouldn't pretend it's normal, and there was a time when America was greater than this kind of performative leadership.

Agreed. If there was any sort of substance in what Trump was proposing, it'd be worth discussing. There's literally nothing in the EO that will "save" college football. Nothing. It's clearly performative.

Stuff like

• The Order prohibits third-party, pay-for-play payments to collegiate athletes. This does not apply to legitimate, fair-market-value compensation that a third party provides to an athlete, such as for a brand endorsement.

...would be equivalent to "It's against the law to speed". It's already in the books. It's a matter how to define it.


This is similar to the "Washington football team should change their team back to Redskins" type take from the other day. Throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

Political affiliations aside, I hope we can all get a good laugh out of one of them saying (paraphrasing here, but this was in part) that since athletes go through “two a days”, they’re not amateurs.

1. Two a days have been long gone in college.

2. I was doing two a days before I was in HS, so where’s my check from 9th grade?
