"We got a bunch of gangstas in our locker room..."

Imagine if SU got in a fight, and Waiters said this in front of national media at a post game press conference?

Just out of curiosity, I see Tu is from Hempstead, NY... Was SU involved in his recruitment at all? I always assumed he was from the Ohio area, was he not a big recruit out of HS?

Obviously, not exactly how you'd want your student-athletes to represent their school...a total embarrassment. However, the reality is, most of these individuals whom proudly deem themselves as gangsta's, if not for the gift/handout of being on full scholies, would likely be incarcerated for one thing or another...

These kids all think they are gangsta's. You can take the gangsta outta the hood . . .

Big mistake letting the kids talk at the press conference immediately after that. What was the coach/SID thinking turning loose some 19 year olds, hopped up from a fight, on the media? You have your stay player/All-America candidate talking about the team being gangstas and putting opponents in body bags, etc. Wow.

Yep, buts dats what daze doo...cuz dats what daze believe...Oh Lord

You must HATE our team then. Right?

I haven't witnessed any of that type of behavior from our team. If they acted in such a way, yes, I personally would not care (hate is too strong a word) for them so much. I doubt the University that is Syracuse would stand for such poor an example/behavior as well...

Yeah, that's fair.

You are hideously naive then.

I agree. Do they ever give these kids instruction in how to deal with the media? I thought about this when JB was going through the presser the night of the Florida game and thinking is he truly prepared to deal with this? Obviously JB or any coach has a bit more experience than a player and it is considered to be a part of their job description to handle the media, at least under normal conditions ie. after a standard game. But, whenever you have a situation that presents differently than just the run of the mill game, what makes us think that these guys - players especially - are ready to handle the kinds of questions they are going to get and be prepared to come up with the appropriate answers on the spot. It's easy to see what the answer should be or shouldn't be with time to reflect, but you aren't given much time to reflect in a presser and these kids don't have a whole lot of life experience to draw on - they are only 18 - 22 year old kids.

Well, maybe. But, if we have players on our team that want to put opponents in body bags, well, that's criminal in my book.

Ummm, I don't know what "reality" you're referring to- but that statement smacks of massive ignorance.

Ignorance? The data speaks for itself. Research it if you wish, I won't do the work for you. Afterwards, if you decide to engage in an intelligent debate relative to a sensitive issue, let me know and I'll look forward to you enlightening me. If not, I'll refer to my experience and knowledge relative to individuals whom pride themselves in gangsta/criminal type behavior and putting people into body bags. That particular behavior is sufficient for me to assess one's true inner core and character. Regardless of what the claimed reason or excuse may be, that is reality...

I will provide you with this modern definition of gangsta: A member of the inner-city underclass, known primarily for antisocial behavior and being uneducated. Lacking a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. Also known for ready access to illegal drugs and weapons, and poor marksmanship.

In the heat of battle stupid things are said. When a teenager says something like "we have gangstas in our locker room" it can be taken out of context. To me he basically was saying that they would not back down or allow themselves to be punked. Poor choice of words, poor choice of actions on the court. Reality is, it was very dumb to put a teenage kid in front of a mic after a big altercation with adrenaline flowing they don't need more attention after that, somebody needs to be in his face making him understand that this is not how we handle things.

I don't know, I'm pretty shocked after the melee in a press conference the kid doesn't have the sense of mind to avoid calling himself and his teammates gangsters. He certainly deserved more than one game - the whole A10, the coach, etc..handled this thing pretty poorly from the suspensions, officiating, all of it.

You can also argue, that in the heat of battle, or when people are under significant pressure, of any kind, their true colors show...

Holloway really should be embarrassed. You're talking smack in a basketball game, you're not a gangsta. Disappointed at the suspension he got. Should've been longer.

Not to necessarily pick on you, since I've seen this multiple times, but Holloway is a senior in college, and far from a teenager. His words and actions are inexcusable, and he should have been punished a couple more games. 1 game is a joke for someone in his position, who is supposed to be a senior leader and one of the faces of college basketball this year. Sorry, but his true colors showed up in a big way.

Zip em up fellas.

LOL. That was kind of funny when he said that. Holloway shouldn't have been put in front of that mic. Some kids just aren't media saavy. By all accounts from people I know in Cincinnati, Holloway is supposed to be a good guy and his coach says he is one of the hardest workers he has ever had at XU. Hope we never have to face Holloway or XU. I think he would carve up our zone.

he will really regret this when it hurts his draft position

Like NBA teams never draft "thugs"... See Kenyon Martin #1 overall, Allen Iverson #1 overall... the list goes on and on. This will have zero impact on his draft position... unless the Pacers pass on him LMAO
