Tulane's new stadium

Looks like a great atmosphere for their program. Not to mention that in the last 5 games they probably brought in more seat revenue than they have in the last 5 seasons.

Good for them.

I don't know about you guys, but I would be very uncomfortable having sweaty guys with no shirts rubbing up next to me....them is fighting condition

heard an interview with the coach a few weeks back and he said it has brought back energy to the program with a place they can call thier own.

all these giant stadiums are going to have a tough time competing with the home experience. awesome tvs, dvrs to watch stuff again, more flexibility in camera angles, not wasting your whole day. NFL teams are spending a billion dollars on incredibly expensive things that just give people what they have at home (a 9000 foot tv 9000 feet away or a tablet on your lap, same thing, except ones a lot more expensive. wifi, stuff like that)

stadiums might have to eventually downsize to be filled with old time diehards. i'm glad they had the sense to make the dome a realistic size. they could shrink capacity too if they wanted too.

on campus and intimate, that's the way it's supposed to be

no one has fun at a concert in a venue too big. you're too self conscious. you feel like you're part of a giant failure. when it's the right size, people have more fun, easier to get people to show up. same with sports

It looks really nice and is a good size, 30k, for their program.

That 30K is for standing room only. Yulman only seats 24K or so. Still, that's fine for Tulane at this point in its history. If the Green Wave ever gets to be a consistent winner they can think about expanding then IF their neighbors let them.

I was at the red bulls stadium last weekend. The crowd gets loud when full capacity. And it doesnt really look all that small for 25k. Capacity doesnt matter as much as having a full house.

I visited their campus with my son when he was looking at schools. A really nice campus...laid out on an old plantation plot. It is about 2 blocks wide and 10 blocks long. This new stadium is perfectly sized for Tulane. I really hope SU can play Tulane again in the next 5-7 years. It would make a wonderful roadtrip.

If SU ever refurbishes the Dome...downsizing to 44,044 seats might be the right answer.

This. The viewing experience is FAR better from your living room than at the game. Not even close.

You go to the game simply for the atmosphere.

True...dat. The school needs to embrace pregame tailgating for fans and encourage it. The Dome needs a refurbishment...do away with the inflated roof and put either a retractable or fixed roof on. The video boards are nice but really still need to be about 50-100% bigger. Still a huge improvement over the first one installed about 10 years ago.

Edit...finally if the Carrier Company (UTC) wants to stay in good graces...maybe they could donate material and equipment to retrofit a new HVAC system. Get Ephesus Lighting to install LED lights.pretty impressive business they have for a new local company.

spending a zillion dollars on a fixed roof is not going to get people off their couch

Are you a case in point? Pray tell do explain how you fix this.
centralized tailgating or lots of beer and live bands on the quad.

get people excited, distract them away from why they are there.

then you shut it down 30mins before the game and herd them into the Dome.

bigger replay boards and DO NOT only use them for replays. they should be showing a live feed of the game, so if one wants they can just watch off of that when the action is away from them, they can.

cheaper ticket prices with better perks for bigger donors.

Who stays home because the roof isn't fixed?

I think they should reduce capacity to 40k and stop being so terrible on offense 75% of the time at home

I don't have a magic bullet. but better to accept than than to waste hundreds of millions of dollars in the name of doing something

So make new improvements but get better on offense...got it.

On the current video boards then down the road on new bigger Video boards make a deal with espn to show EspnUGoalline on mute or timed out of town highlight packages during TV timeouts. Those time outs are excruciating and that's when people flip to other games when at home and part of why they stay at home.

Dome ads etc can go on secondary boards or picture in picture on the big boards.

I'd rather they go with theatre seating and reduce capacity. More comfortable, and at capacity.

if the team ever got good, the smaller capacity and greater demand they could actually raise ticket prices.

If I remember right, basketball has the live feed on the replay boards.. Why not football

spend a hundred million dollars changing the roof for the zero people that care. got it
That is your opinion...but explain the over 500k people that sit in the Dome each season?

So basically you poo-poo everything as a waste of money, have no solutions and don't come to games...

That is not true at all. When there at the stadium you get to see a great many things that you don't see on TV. Pass routes, open receivers, blown coverage, blocks away from the camera, etc. On TV you only see what they want you to see and nothing else. If the color guys thinks it is important you might get an iso or something but otherwise you miss it all. There is a reason the OC and DC sit in the booth.

I rwatch all SU games stopping and rewinding and I still don't get the feeol for the game I get when at the Dome (which has great sight lines).

Kills me to watch on TV. The only thing better at home is the traffic and the men's room.

The ticket prices in that place are completely out of whack...a guy paying premium can hit a beach ball to a guy playing far, far, far less with the same view. Fix that and fix the product on the field. Decent product gets your 40k plus.

Amen. I usually get to eight or nine NFL/College football games a year and get frustrated when watching on television because my view is dictated by a television producer.
