I might creamed for this but I thought the outcry from the SU Fans was a little over the top. I agree that Hunt's actions was improper for the starting QB and leader, a player that all SU Fans put their hopes in for a great year. I agree that it didn't show leadership for him get to that point.
What I also get is that people, let alone young college kids, get emotional and they make mistakes. I've made plenty of very stupid mistakes in my life ...
very stupid mistakes. Had I had my head straight I would not have, but that's the point - my
very stupid mistakes were an emotional reaction and not rational. And he's a kid. I felt, to be honest, a little deflated to see the SU Fans come down so hard on Hunt because the Fan's Hopes of great season seemed marred, especially in a game where we played so very poorly. Forgive me if I'm getting this all wrong, but Hunt is just a kid playing football and I am never one to expect that he show perfect leadership and games-man-ship all the time. What I DO EXPECT is that he learns and grows from mistakes - that, in my opinion, is the true mark of what his character is.
Go ahead - up but I stand by this. He's just a kid playing football, that the fans (me included) place our expectations on him and then condemn him when he falters - it makes me sad. I'm glad for his tweet and hope he has become stronger because of this.
By the same token I get that the fan's reactions are also "emotional" so I do not place blame on the reaction. I also get that Hunt has a responsibility and is why he is a scholarship athlete. He made a mistake. My strategy is to move on, let him learn and grow and become a stronger leader.
Flame suit on since I expect some retort as my perspective doesn't seem to be the common theme on Hunt's actions. I can take it .. I have kinda medium-thick skin.
