1) I have no problem with the "sprints". But let's be clear: that was Fran playing to the outside world more than the team itself. He's a very media savvy guy and he knows what that does for the program's reputation. If it was totally about the players then he wouldn't have let them lollygag their way through it.

2) The player's only meeting at halftime is cool. The offense still played like hot garbage for another 1 2/3rds quarters after that. So let's not pretend that a campfire talk is what improved their play.

The staff and the program need to be much better if they want to squeak their way to bowl eligibility this season. PR stunts and speeches aren't going to accomplish that.

I don't see that as the meaning. I see it as we didn't perform as we are supposed to, regardless of the opponent. Things like lack of hustle can't be tolerated against any opponent. He was unhappy with the effort and should have been.

I don't know if he had room to go the distance but his decision to pop it out turned it from a positive play to a negative one.

Maybe not, because I know things close quicker than they appear. But when they showed the replay from a higher angle, he clearly had a very big lane and no safety out to that side.

But yeah, at least a 10 yard gain easy instead of negative 1.

And it seems like the double is on a DT who's already being adequately blocked.

They also had problems with an overload on one side or a blitz off the edge. I think that was at least two of the sacks, one being the giant backwards fumble on 4th down.

I think we’re going to find out just how good a coach Fran Brown (and staff) is these next few weeks because, right now, we aren’t very good at all. If he can get these players to a bowl, he’ll really have proven how good he can be. This is not a good football team. I think our best hope is for some of our opponents to be worse than expected. So far, UNC looks like that team. Otherwise, don’t see many others. Sure, Clemson and SMU were probably always overrated, but they’re still better teams as of today. However, if they can get this team to somehow beat an SMU or a Pitt or a BC, then they will have done an excellent coaching job. But, as of last night, it’s not looking good.

The likelihood of repeat penalties is very low, and a penalty stops the clock. You can still get 4 plays in in 30 seconds with a timeout if you're a well coached team. Even with one or two being runs.

That doesn’t affect any other play or any other potential penalty, because there could be a penalty on that play using 20 more seconds as easy as if we snapped it right away.

I would push back on #1 a little.. It was less about the actual sprints, then the fact that they were actually having to do it.. after a win, live on TV. Think it was more of action not the activity. Not to say there wasn't a little "outside world" message too.

Agree.. I think we have a lot of good players, but they are inexperienced for the most part and will have to have some growing up time. Yesterday was a good thing (since we got the win) towards that. I think we'll be able to see the clear patterns around week four. Lot of uneven play across the board yesterday with college football (except for the 70 point blowouts).

Last season McCord was under a ton of pressure vs Stanford. So either Nixon, McCord, or the OL made a big adjustment because the issue didn't persist after that game. We need to do similar this year.

Hey, nice, me too. Coach liked the way I played sports in gym class, found out I played lax in middle school and wanted me to try out for the team, but I just chuckled because I wasn't anywhere close to good enough and also wasn't hard core enough for his program. He did give me an extra T-shirt though.

When did you graduate? I was 2000.

I graduated in 1989. I remember playing lacrosse in gym class as well. Coach Messere would use that to see if there were any hidden gems. Definitely not me.

Considering this happened in back to back weeks, I assume this will be addressed going forward. You know other DC's have seen it and will be trying it.

They need to fix that, but the answer isn't to block nobody for the whole play.
