Check out the UNC board. Here's an example of this morning's attitude:

"No Longer UNC
Time has passed us. No longer UNC of old. Might be a while before we have the success we are used to. Out coached, recrujted, and no longer relivent."

UNC's free basketball board is the worst place in the world, and I say this as a UNC fan. The best, most reasonable analysis on that board is found on the off-topic forum, the ZZL.

The fact that the poster that you quoted can't even spell "relevant" correctly shows how intelligent that person really is. Probably a 12-year old.

Finally starting to realize Roy isn't the coach they thought they were getting... Especially when the shady practices are found out.

I'm not aware of any shady practices, and neither is the NCAA. What do you know that we don't?

That's such a joke. Read the article posted yesterday about the fact that many of the student athletes at UNC don't read at a high school level.

How long will it be before the Hairston mess comes back to infect the program?

Just because UNC is a blue blood and the NCAA turns their eyes away, doesn't mean there aren't shady practices in play.

CNN pulled that article because it came out that their only source (Willingham) got busted making a bunch of her stats up. UNC complained to CNN and now "poof", the article is off the front page (although a preexisting link to it will probably pull it up). Willingham has one agenda-to get rid of all Division 1 sports. She is as dangerous as she is clueless.

UNC just appears to be going through what we went through post-Carmelo. They will be fine. They've even had more success in the four years after their 09 title than we did after our 03 title, making the Elite 8 twice in the past 4 years.

We really don't have a leg to stand on when calling out other schools for academics.

No one does. The last time Duke released the average SAT scores of its basketball team, the team average was in the 900 range-same as UNC's and same as probably most big-time D1 schools out there. The fact that this surprises people in this day and age is the real shocker.

Willingham is a classic academic elitist with a chip on her shoulder. She can't stand the fact that a bunch of dumb jocks get to share the same "hallowed halls" as an academic like herself. If she had her way D1 sports would be done-not just at UNC, but at Syracuse, at Michigan, at Notre Dame...at every big-time school.

Really? I don't know. If we find a problem with the academics, our student athletes seem to get held out of games while the issues are resolved. Even if it happens at the absolute worst time of the year for the squad.

Eh, it happens. You bring in a class or two and nobody really pans out in a big way and you have to take your lumps for a couple of years. Think of our recruiting class after winning the NC. Brought in three highly-regarded recruits (Nichols, Roberts, Watkins) and we didn't get a star.

Two players, two years, three suspensions, and a horrible recent APR.

I for one don't give a crap about the academics part of college sports and think all these guys should be able to play, but I really think it makes us look stupid calling out other schools for academic when we've had our recent issues as well as having trouble clearing two of them before this season. I wouldn't be shocked if a majority of college teams read at a 5th grade level, I'm not knocking the players as I don't blame them, I blame the high schools and the colleges that accepted them. The only thing most these guys know is basketball.

Sounds like a real gem. Her husband is a lucky man

Whenever you play NC State I'm sure you will hear a lot of fans going on about "academics." Keep in mind their star player last year was the only person ever to graduate from his high school...it opened just in time to admit him, he was the only senior in his class, and it shut down just after he graduated. Oh, and conveniently, that "high school" was run by an NC State alumn and booster.

There is shadiness all over the college sports world. Carolina behaved idiotically for decades claiming that we were better than everybody else when in actuality we played the game just like every other school. Now, we're getting embarrassed for throwing stones from a glass house, but the schools targeting us had their glass houses shattered long ago. It really is a bizarre world.

Never heard of that, who was the player? Lol. Too bad Lenny Cooke didn't know this booster.

Need to correct my earlier post: Purvis's graduating class was the first in school history and had four students, not one. The high school shut down that year, however, making them the only graduates in that school's history.

You don't blame the players just a bit? These kids should take some responsibility in my mind. It is after all, their lives.

I hear what you are saying about all of sports though. It's just sad.

Regarding this topic, how the hell is Oregon getting away with what they are doing? Their basketball team is made up almost completely of transfers that were kicked out/flunked out of their old schools. Latest example: Austin from Providence.

Their educational system seems despondent. Ooof.
