UNC Postgame

All that matters is what you do in the NCAA tournament. Well you got to actually get there.

Call me crazy but there were a lot of trash big East teams for a long time that cuse and JB beat up on. If JB was in ACC his entire career, don’t believe he wins nearly as much as he did. This program has been awful since joining the ACC because the teams are better. The players are better and the coaches are better. No mystery that the product of the program has declined massively since joining this conference

That’s most of the problem though, the ACC is a little bit better than what we saw in the Big East. Not 15% winning percentage different. We are way too far off to even have these conversations. We are now trying to figure out how to get back in the conversation versus how good we do once we are in the conversation.

There were seasons in the last 5-6 with SU when the Big East was better top to bottom than the ACC. The 2010-2011 season had 11 Big East teams in the NCAA tourney.
Our first two seasons in the ACC were pretty solid. It was the drop-off in talent that turned things, moreso than the competition.

It’s insane. I can’t defend this take. The ACC has been atrocious since UVA won their title. The BE was infinitely better for most of the time we were there. After expansion, from 2008 to 2013 the conference had at least 7 tournament teams each year. The ACC has had 7 tournament teams once in the past 7 years. Every other seasons it’s 4 or 5.

That doesn’t even take into account the fact we rarely lost to the Hofstras of the world back then. Recently the conference has been Duke, big gap to Clemson and UNC and then some random school. Duke would have had 4 or 5 losses in a season in that conference back then.

Agreed, but honestly the issue seems different than a talent problem now.

It’s not better. The league has been terrible compared to the BE. All you have to do is look at tournament teams year by year. And the coaching was way better in that conference. Calhoun, Jay Wright, Pitino, prime Dixon, Beilein. It’s not even close.

Bulldog, I think this is the first post of yours that I've read and completely disagreed with. This one seems a bit out of left field for you. Since we joined the ACC and our time in the BE, we were really two different eras in our program history. We were a MUCH better program during the BE years and even the first few in the ACC. The decline in our program, I believe, is much more to do about talent acquisition and coaching (not the acc).

Also... the last 4-5 years prior to us moving to the acc, the Big East was a stronger conference than the ACC

What the heck?

Red seems to do a decent job identifying some issues in the postgame conference. Maybe we can win the ACCT!!!!

I think Bulldog meant more of the bottom of the conference. They are both bad, but the bottom of the ACC is maybe a little better than what the bottom of the Big East was, that’s not saying much though. We had an easier time beating inferior competition in the Big East, but it’s because we were better at that time.

Well yeah, we had better talent. Georgia Tech, BC, Pitt and Notre Dame are no different than Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Providence.
