or decision to bring him back for 3rd year...like you couldnt tell through the first 2 years that he's probably (almost certainly) not the guy to get back to a high level
Yea. The biggest mistake was that we were told and Autry and the team were told it was ok to sneak into the tournament. That was the plan all 3 years. Sneak onto the bubble. Autry never even knew what to ask for or how to get there.

What scared me the most after Hofstra this year was that we might still be sneaking in this year and then getting beat by some hofstra like team in the tourney. Autry would be back and we would keep hoping to just get in a tourney occasionally.

Now with the inevitable housecleaning. The new coach, staff and team needs to be told as they should’ve been told day 1 that we expect a top tier finish in the ACC, high seedings in the NCAAT every year and beating ranked teams consistently.

They ask for whatever they need to get there. Us fans, donors and hopefully the big dogs will get on board.

If Donnie goes pro, there’s a good chance he will go very late 1st round or in the 2nd round off potential. He will succeed on the next level with good coaching.

IDK. Donnie appears very slow a foot, and not very athletic. I think he'll struggle getting his shot off at the NBA level, especially in traffic, etc. and will struggle immensely guarding folks at the 3 spot. Perhaps, with some time, effort, physical maturity, etc., he can stick/last at the 4 spot, but I think the jury is certainly out. Again, just my opinion from what I've observed to date.

What I think sort of happened is when JB got older, he stopped casting a wide net and became hyper focused on certain players only (my guess is due to old age didn't have the energy to travel all over and watch a bunch of games anymore), and when those players dragged out their recruitments and picked someplace else then we were left scrambling looking for someone anyone. I remember this happening a number of times and the board became extremely frustrated.

For sure he no longer had the energy. I mean, we all recall the photo of him sleeping and slouched in that chair at some recruiting event. Say what you will, but that photo painted a thousand words and spoke for itself.

Yes, many here around that time were extremely frustrated on that front, in addition to some of us dealing with those 'usual suspects' at the time and their; "how many games have you won" type malarkey, etc. when sharing that frustration.

We went to a highly competitive conference and our coach got old and thus lazy recruiting. That was the time he should have stepped down and not be granted the opportunity to stick around and coach his kids. Cute father sons story but a disastrous outcome for the program.

I remember a P-S article quoting JB saying he would know when to step down. Sure, Jimmy.

Sadly as the season slips further and further away I think we’ll see more and more stats only oriented performances from certain players.

-A couple of things I don't understand: taking Freeman out with 2 minutes left in the first half when he was the only one giving you offense the entire half, and then you give up a quick 6-0 run with him off the court.
-Then, to start the second half, he pulled Freeman after like 2 minutes again, and UNC went on another run.
-Then in the first like 8 minutes of the second half, when UNC extended to the massive lead, Freeman had 2 shots at the basket in 8 minutes and wasn't getting the ball...

Like, after your star player has a first half like that, where he proved he can compete with Wilson, how do you not go to him? Especially as you just watch UNC pile on the lead while other players are just chucking up shots?? Like what is going through the coach's mind? I just don't understand why you wouldn't feed the hot hand???

Same thing at the end of the game Kingz 3 bang Kingz 3 bang time out JJ drive and throw stuff up JJ drive and throw stuff up JJ drive and throw stuff up the next three times down the court Like does our coach not pay attention to what is going on in the game??? I truely dont understand.
JJ and Kiyan need to go to the end of the bench and stay there. I think there is something to Kiyan not passing the ball to Freeman and JJ is just delusional regarding his ability and status. Seen Kiyan look at Freeman and refuse to pass it to him several times this year.

George and Donnie celebrating the fact nobody fouled at the end and then hugging each other as if they won.Go back and watch the end and it looked very strange the way they acted.
Looked like two dudes who won some money on covering spread lol! In all seriousness, odd behavior.

If you like pain and suffering, watch the game again and count how many open shots NC took vs how many SU did. Will probably be about 40-3. We usually at least have ball movement for a few minutes per game, but this game we decided to go one-on-one from start to finish. A bold strategy.
At least Donnie made himself some money tonight.
this is what KILLED me about late-era JB ball...I HATE it

Didnt BC football have a betting scandal in 97 or something?

These guys absolutely looked like they placed a bet on SU (themselves) +10.5 and didnt want to foul at the end and put UNC to the line to risk losing by 11 or 12. Now maybe they were instructed by Red if we miss no need to foul but they sure looked happy about losing by 10.

I remember some discussion here justifying Red sticking around since there were future HOF coaches who struggled in their first few years and didn't get fired and then went on to amazing careers - like Coach K. He sucked at Duke and didn't exactly kill it at Army before that. Then, it clicked and he built a juggernaut. So, that said, besides it being a different era, K was also just 33 when he took the Duke job. Red was 51 when they hired him and he had basically zero head coaching experience. Just an apples and oranges comparison.

I think SU was hoping Red would be Tommy Lloyd, another older long time asst, but instead ended up with Lloyd Christmas.

I see so much now on social media of evidence cheating and I wonder how much of it is just gamblers viewing things through a different lense than non-gamblers?

I'll see NBA highlights posted where someone says, "who takes that shot...Nobody. It's fixed - they're all in cahoots!"

Meanwhile, I just watched the game and thought nothing of it - the shot looked fun - I would have taken it too.

I do know as a 20 year old kid, with how prevalent it all is, I'd likely know the gambling line (cuz I do every time now, and I don't even bet) and would find it amusing at the end to break it. Cuz, why not...we lost already. It may influence my last shot or effort in a 10 point game - and I may laugh about it.

Who really knows for sure....until the FBI shows up!
