UNC Postgame

15-13 current record with @Wake @Louisville then home vs PITT then ACCT

Will we end with a losing record ??????

Coming off of the beatdown at Duke you would have thought we would’ve been ready to play. You would’ve thought wrong. This was a disgraceful performance. UNC was dying to get beat today.
-Donnie was invisible in the first half. His technical foul was absurd after he got bailed out by the official. But unlike some, I’m hardly ready to throw him out with the bathwater. We do absolutely nothing to get him the ball in position to score. He cares. But our offense does nothing to help him. I think analysts on every network that has shown us have taken shots at our lack of any real offense.
-as I said in the game thread, JJ on a hot streak is like marrying a stripper. It seems like fun at the time, but you know ultimately it will not end well. Even on a day like today, where he scores, you have to remember he does nothing else as far assists or playing defense.
-today was not Red‘s finest. When North Carolina was having its way backing down their bigs in mismatches, we did nothing to disrupt them and would not send help. With five minutes left and the game still within reach Red had Anthony out there despite the fact that he had two points, one assist and had been targeted and torched on defense.
-white had a couple of really strong moves. His athleticism is evident. We have to do everything we can to bring him back. I was surprised he didn’t get more run in the second half.
-Kingz was awful today on both ends. His shot selection was poor and so was his defense where he did not stay in front of his man and got burned repeatedly.
-I give the fans a ton of credit for showing up today. They deserved better.

I know I’ve been hard on JJ, but this is a Red post.

JJ is going to lead our team in FGAs and have a TS% below 50% for the year most likely and be around that for his overall career.

A TS% below 50% is bad.

Red has been the problem for a while. Including on JJ’s development.

I cannot stress how bad this is.

His teams just flat out lack toughness.

This is what I notice the most watching other teams play...

I always see posts in the game thread.. This player is soft That player is soft etc

Our coach is soft and doesn't demand physical play and physical toughness. He talks about it, but it doesn't translate. Other coaches get their teams to play hard, fast, smart, and physical. Red gets none of that out his players for multiple years and multiple different players.

I have to believe at this point Melo is self aware in his life. To have his son be all the bad things that Melo was accused of being during his playing career (not interested in defense, not a willing passer, and perpetually out of shape) is astonishing to me.

Ground hog day...stay in it for a while...then get blown out...Boeheim let this program go to crap being stubborn with the zone when Middle school kids can drain threes ... and then threw a tizzy fit to retain his guy as coach
At least JB was smart enough to have actual 3 point shooters on the team. Why can’t we have those now?

STEVEHOLT zero gas lighting. Most of the board knows JJ’s had a disappointing career and is what he is. But there’s a few that act as if he’s 1A or 1B why this teams laughably awful and that stance itself is laughably wrong

When we were tied at 44 I thought we had a prayer. Should have known better. The next thing and only thing to get enthused about is who will replace Red. It’s all just sad.

Never seen a team miss so many wide open shots ever. 1-13 from 3 last I looked at the board in the dome. 42-42 at one point and then down 10. Leading 12-9 and then do the line shift and then it’s a 21-9 run by Unc. Refs were awful but didn’t really matter.
Team has no idea how momentum works. After Kyle got the steal and dunk the dome erupted and was begging to get into the game. Come out of that timeout and Unc goes on huge run and that was literally the only time the crowd was in the game the entire time.

Nate George is terrible. I don’t know what else to say. This kid doesn’t value the ball one bit. Bricks then turnovers and just totally took the air out of the dome today.

Red had so many chances to coach a good game. He didn’t do one thing today. Not one.

It was strange year one. 20 wins, but we got blown out a number of times. I thought it was due to the make up of the team. 3 years later, it’s really more a reflection of the coach.

His teams just flat out lack toughness.
Red’s first team stopped listening to him because they knew he couldn’t coach. It was actually effective. Judah would take over games. Q would go rogue but was effective. Maliq was the glue that pushed the team forward. They weren’t the best team but had some talent to win games.

It’s also why the whole team departed as soon as they lost in the ACCT. We should’ve known back then that Red wasn’t the guy. There were early signals everyone ignored.

Year 2 was the worst roster in modern SU history. It masked that he was a bad coach because it was easy to blame the lack of talent.

Year 3 he got the talent but was finally exposed as not being able to coach and run a program.

Not everyone is cut out for leadership. Red has the desire but not the ability. Unfortunately, Syracuse is a place that has undying loyalty to their alums. They failed to see the answer to bring SU back was outside the school.

I’m hopeful the completely new leadership will see basketball as an important and valuable part of the school, thereby putting the right resources and commitment to making the program successful again. The last decade has been a disaster. The next leadership group has to get it right or I fear SU athletics (basketball and football) will be left to the annals of history like CCNY or Ivy League football.

Our guards had 29 points on 30 shots with 3 assists and 5 turnovers playing a combined 70 minutes.
well one guard had 22 of those pts on 10/19 shooting and led the team with the paltry 2 assts, had 2 of those turnovers and also added 4 rebs. the other guard? bad.

One more to go.

No spark or enthusiasm in the crowd.

And typical SU, the volume on the microphones they gave Rudy and Jimmy at halftime were turned down too low.

I could say more but the horse is dead and no need for me to beat it any more.

I really thought with Wilson out of the game that it would come down to the wire. Wrong. Veesaar owned us. JJ was the only Syracuse player who had an above average game. No one else was even average. Down 2 and Starling gets his pocket picked for a layup. Game over.
