The more I think about that 20 win season, the more I feel Judah Mintz is the only reason we got 20 wins. Red’s offense is questionable, and I think Judah just took it upon himself to be the offense. It was strange year one. 20 wins, but we got blown out a number of times. I thought it was due to the make up of the team. 3 years later, it’s really more a reflection of the coach.
His teams just flat out lack toughness.
Judah, Maliq and Q. They all had their momentsThe more I think about that 20 win season, the more I feel Judah Mintz is the only reason we got 20 wins. Red’s offense is questionable, and I think Judah just took it upon himself to be the offense.
I say this and I’m far from the leader of the Judah fan club, but I personally am going to give him credit for willing the team to 20 wins.
My son has my genes and is a very similar athlete to what I was. I’m sure Melo would be very happy if Kiyan becomes one of the greatest scorers in NBA history with poor defense and passing.I have to believe at this point Melo is self aware in his life. To have his son be all the bad things that Melo was accused of being during his playing career (not interested in defense, not a willing passer, and perpetually out of shape) is astonishing to me.
Except Kiyan doesn’t anything close to his father’s offensive ability. He needs to work twice as hard as his dad, at least. My son has my genes and is a very similar athlete to what I was. I’m sure Melo would be very happy if Kiyan becomes one of the greatest scorers in NBA history with poor defense and passing.
Excellent postRed’s first team stopped listening to him because they knew he couldn’t coach. It was actually effective. Judah would take over games. Q would go rogue but was effective. Maliq was the glue that pushed the team forward. They weren’t the best team but had some talent to win games.
It’s also why the whole team departed as soon as they lost in the ACCT. We should’ve known back then that Red wasn’t the guy. There were early signals everyone ignored.
Year 2 was the worst roster in modern SU history. It masked that he was a bad coach because it was easy to blame the lack of talent.
Year 3 he got the talent but was finally exposed as not being able to coach and run a program.
Not everyone is cut out for leadership. Red has the desire but not the ability. Unfortunately, Syracuse is a place that has undying loyalty to their alums. They failed to see the answer to bring SU back was outside the school.
I’m hopeful the completely new leadership will see basketball as an important and valuable part of the school, thereby putting the right resources and commitment to making the program successful again. The last decade has been a disaster. The next leadership group has to get it right or I fear SU athletics (basketball and football) will be left to the annals of history like CCNY or Ivy League football.
He’s one of the best people ever. He cares about friendships, he loves SU, this is absolutely killing him. It sucks for everyone involved that this is the results and has been. He’s a good man. That’s painful to watch.
It is painful. I can’t believe there is people that seriously want GMAC or Hopkins to have the prospect of potentially going through this immediately after this. None have the resume where success is a certainty. He’s a good man. That’s painful to watch.
Well said. And while the results are what they are, I find it difficult to see some of the over the top shots he takes from fans who seem to root against him and the team. After all, he was a great Orangeman, played his butt off and he is forever orange. He’s one of the best people ever. He cares about friendships, he loves SU, this is absolutely killing him. It sucks for everyone involved that this is the results and has been.
Because you have JJ as your shooting guard. At least JB was smart enough to have actual 3 point shooters on the team. Why can’t we have those now?
I was really hoping they'd pull this out today so that Red would have something positive on his way out. A few more chances, but it's not looking good. I talked myself into thinking the team would play with their hair on fire after Duke.
We played like our asses were on fire.
I hate seeing all of the hate that he’s gotten. Is he a bad coach? Yes, but that doesn’t mean he should be treated the way he’s being treated. As you noted, he’s an amazing person and loves SU. The things people have said about him as a person because of his coaching ability are sickening, and I truly feel awful for him. I hope wherever he ends up he has a tremendous amount of success, and I hope he’s still able to enjoy both Syracuse and Syracuse basketball as a fan next season. He’s one of the best people ever. He cares about friendships, he loves SU, this is absolutely killing him. It sucks for everyone involved that this is the results and has been.
Don't sleep on the occasional laxative effects of the Olive Garden Tour of Italy. Something about that alfredo sauce sometimes...I blame Chipotle.
Sounds like a coach who can’t judge talent
He gets paid millions, the Criticism isn’t unearned. He can be mother Theresa off the court but the bottom line is he’s not paid to be a nice guy, he’s paid to be a coach and he’s awful at it. I don’t see people attacking him personally for anything outside of basketball. He clearly has no idea how to game plan, no idea how to motivate players and zero clue about judging talent. That’s not uncalled for or mean, it’s just what the evidence presented to date has laid bare. Is he stupid as a person? Of course not, but does he sure seem to be “stupid” when looking at relative basketball knowledge versus his peers? 100%. It’s not mean, it’s just true. He’s smarter than the average Joe but that’s worth 2M a yearWell said. And while the results are what they are, I find it difficult to see some of the over the top shots he takes from fans who seem to root against him and the team. Thanks, man, for activating my PTSD.Don't sleep on the occasional laxative effects of the Olive Garden Tour of Italy. Something about that alfredo sauce sometimes...
I've heard. From a friend.
