UNC Postgame

I’ll share this- 2 players care about the team winning from the starting 5. And 2 players care about their own stats and could less about how the team does. Anyone wanna take some guesses ? 2 guys are trying to be leaders so they can act however they want in my mind… at least 2 show emotion and fire and care. The other 2 can kick rocks
The only starter that appears to really want to win is Kyle. The other 4 can pound salt, especially the 2 in the backcourt.

From watching Kingz and Kyle are the positive.

JJ is obviously one of the other two.

Kingz and Kyle show they care constantly and give effort 100% of time and make winning plays most games.

Nait and Donnie don't care. I will say Donnie cares when he is engaged in the offense. When the offense is going to others, it shows in his effort in other areas. Which lines up with cares about his numbers..

JJ plays 100% but has no idea how to play like a winner.

That’s why you let George and Freeman walk next year. Coaches need to obviously look for talent, but also guys who play with a motor ALL THE TIME, not only when shots are falling. This current coaching staff still recruited like they wanted to play zone. They needed to find guys who can move their feet and have toughness. Kyle and Kingz are close, but neither are strong enough to bang against big strong teams. Kyle does bring it all the time. I feel bad because Kyle never got to experience what a great atmosphere the Dome can be.

Kyle and Kingz obviously. Donnie’s been patheticly lethargic lately. Nait is Nait and JJ is just a chucker.

Kyle played for Cronin last year and UCLA’s late arriving small crowd (shudder). I bet he’s appreciative though, and probably disappointed the fans aren’t getting the product they deserve for what they pour in from a support standpoint.

And I’m assuming one of those who really wants us to win isn’t good enough to put the team on his back despite his constant high shooting efforts?

Never seen a team miss so many wide open shots ever. 1-13 from 3 last I looked at the board in the dome. 42-42 at one point and then down 10. Leading 12-9 and then do the line shift and then it’s a 21-9 run by Unc. Refs were awful but didn’t really matter.
Team has no idea how momentum works. After Kyle got the steal and dunk the dome erupted and was begging to get into the game. Come out of that timeout and Unc goes on huge run and that was literally the only time the crowd was in the game the entire time.

Nate George is terrible. I don’t know what else to say. This kid doesn’t value the ball one bit. Bricks then turnovers and just totally took the air out of the dome today.

Red had so many chances to coach a good game. He didn’t do one thing today. Not one.
Nate ain’t a pick and roll guy. Why you bring him in to run this is beyond me. You can see he doesn’t know what to do

JJ is a great kid but I think if you’d ask him the score after the game he’d have no idea.

Need toughness! I agree.

That’s all Georgia Tech does. We knew exactly what we were getting. GT doesn’t do it well and that’s why their coach will be done after the season too.

And Kyle missed a defensive assignment and Red immediately inserted Souare into the game. I understand the thought process of it but there was no slapping fives or words of encouragement when Kyle came to the bench.

Kyle is like the #1 guy when it comes to hustle and heart. Yes, he missed a defensive assignment, and I would have pulled him also, but he shouldn't have punished or embarrassed him like he did.

For reference, I believe it happened with like 5 minutes to go in the 1st half. I thought he would insert Kyle back in at the U4 time out, but he didn't put him back in until around 28 seconds in the half.

Selfishness is often a main ingredient in underachieving basketball teams. Just maddening.

Another day another loss
Yesterday was my first game in the Dome this season. It was fun to be there - finally.

At the beginning of the game it seemed that the Orange was playing hard. It seems to me that SU has a lot of quality athletes - that Autry has the ability to go deep into his bench.

As the game continued it seemed pretty clear that the guys were taking too many acrobatic shots - that is especially true with Starling.

It's fun to watch, and we make a few, but you can't win that way.

You have to run an offense that creates good shots. We don't do that.

And, we do nothing to dictate play - to make the opponent react to us.

I am good with a regime change at this point.

I want a coach who dictates to the other team - one who creates a style of play that is up tempo and creative - let's press all game!

What I really want is a young Rick Pitino. I wonder if there is anybody out there

Serious question (truly)... what is the goal of how we're trying to utilize Donnie on the offensive side? I'm not an X's and O's guy, but that pick and roll action looks terrible. Donnie looks clunky, doesn't get open half the time, and when he does he's usually outside the perimeter. Again, honest question... is Red really expecting Donnie to be effective against decent to good teams with him getting the ball that far from the basket? I'm really perplexed.

syracuse basketball seems to have withered on the vine since leaving the Big East. the thrill is gone .
