UNC Postgame

syracuse basketball seems to have withered on the vine since leaving the Big East. the thrill is gone .
The Orange got to the Final Four in 2016 as a member of the ACC.

What we left was not the Big East as we knew it.

And our issues on the court have nothing to do with the appropriate decision to become a member of the ACC.

would you as a proponent of the move then care to list our finishes in the ACC in terms of regular season rankings and our dismal ACCT tournament performances. i'm not even going to look them up cuz i know first hand they suck. hard. let's hear your defense and i bet it begins with MONEY. you traded cache for cash.

It is painful. I can’t believe there is people that seriously want GMAC or Hopkins to have the prospect of potentially going through this immediately after this. None have the resume where success is a certainty.
Unless the school is willing to pay serious big bucks, I don’t think any coach we will bring in will come with success as a certainty.
The whole reason I was upset that they picked Red over Gerry is my belief that no matter what his teams would fight and hustle till the bitter end.
In just 2 years, Siena has gone from 4 wins to currently 19 wins.
And his team fights no matter what.
Our teams are big cream puffs with no on court leader.
Gerry has Doty because he prioritized certain intangibles, like leadership in the recruiting process. Red gave it no value at all
I know the Gerry ship has sailed and he is probably never, or in the next 10 years, going to be the SU coach but dang I can’t help but wonder what might have been😧

It was strange year one. 20 wins, but we got blown out a number of times. I thought it was due to the make up of the team. 3 years later, it’s really more a reflection of the coach.

His teams just flat out lack toughness.
And structure.

And discipline.

And discernible systems on both sides of the ball.

And player development.

Other than that...

TV Gmac was the toughest player he ever had and who he would want in a foxhole with him. Nuff said.

Our record over the past few years has nothing to do with the conference affiliation.

It is a reflection of sub-par talent acquisition.

While some may feel that the Big East, as it was when we left it - with the likes of South Florida, Cincinnati, Rutgers and DePaul - had “cache” I tend to agree with Boeheim that the glory days of what we originally created were long gone by then.

It would seem hard to argue that our recruiting issues over the past ten years are related to the fact that we now play NC, Duke, NC State, UVA, Miami, BC, and Louisville - programs that have a decent amount of “cache”

I certainly don’t buy that.

And, I suspect that splitting BB away from FB - with football competing in anonymity- in the American Conference - would not have helped matters.

And, the notion that the issue of money is a trifle - that has no bearing on basketball success, is a tough one to accept. Especially in the age of NIL.

It’s not easy transitioning from a legendary coach who might have stayed a bit too long.
