Uniforms vs NC State

It's just because the old ones were Soooo good. Classic, clean, defing, and awesome. I don't see the appetite for them fading. New ones? Meh. They're all right. Just tough going from the #1 uniform in conference, to the worst.
That’s the killer knife in it all. We actually have a fantastic, proven solution that has (and will) stand the test of time.

Yeah, I can probably get back in my house by running through my screen door. But why would I when I can just open it?

The problem is that 20 year old kids (~avg age of the guys on the team) dress like clowns and don’t realize it until years later.

Letting them choose *every week* isn’t good for long term brand equity.

It’s one thing to do it 1-2 times a year as a recruiting hook, and it’s another thing to do it all the time.
I have seen a lot of family photos from the late 60s/70s/80s where the people in their 40s and 50s were dressed pretty clown like.

Yes, letting the ones that wear the uniforms pick their uniform is crazy.

Exactly. The whole “we have the worst” is played out...and wrong.

Agreed. That's why countless other organizations don't do it.
(Countless pro teams, service industry jobs, etc.)

You convinced me. We shouldn't hire people from your family, and we should make sure the people making the decisions are in their 30's :p

Its college football. Not professional or service industry type of jobs. The only ones it really matters too is the players. Whether fan like them or not is irrelevant.

Fans liking them is almost all that's relevant. They're the guys who keep the lights on.

Again, adults should make the decisions, like they do for virtually every other organization. CFB isn't special. It's an industry just like the examples that you dismissed for no stated reason.

If the colors of the uniform combination are that special that it decides what fans show up and what fans dont, then dont bother. Im sure the ones that show up and "keep the lights on" will show for the TEAM.

Merchandise sales - they help support the university

Are those based on the combination of colors the athletes choose to wear for a game day uniform?

Walmart fans are what separate the big dogs from the others. Uniforms are what start kids off at an early age. Uniforms are part of what connects the present to the past.

Catering to the whims of 17 year old kids will lead to a lot of short term wins at the expense of long term losses. It's not how you build a program, and neither is ignoring the fans (for example, the "get a life" comment is still an issue).

I like how quickly you go from corporate to walmart. They are colors of a uniform, not the depth chart of schedule. You are nuts.

Huh? "Walmart fans" is a term.

Urban Dictionary: Walmart fan

And nobody said anything about a "depth chart of a schedule" (whatever that is) until you just mentioned it.

But to clarify my point, management should make the business decisions (like what happens in virtually every other organization), and these decisions are business decisions, because among other reasons, they affect fans, and fans matter - including (especially) those on the periphery. Giving players too much power will lead to continued short-sighted decisions, and we will win a bunch of battles, but we will lose the war.
