Freshman cornerback Marcellus Barnes Jr. stood with his position group during early warm-ups but did not partake. He’s in a sweatsuit on the sideline.

Barnes exited Syracuse’s Week 4 game against Stanford with what coach Fran Brown said postgame were back spasms. Barnes did not play against Holy Cross.


Brown was not asked about an update to Barnes’ status this week.

Linebacker Marlowe Wax is present but not dressed. He is still shy of the six-week recovery timeline for a lower leg/foot injury suffered Week 1.

Running back Will Nixon has a boot on his left foot and is using a medical scooter. Brown said during his radio show Tuesday that Nixon would miss “a little while.”

Brown pulled freshman Malachi James from kick and punt return warm-ups immediately after the unit came to the field in full uniform.

James ran off to the locker room and returned in a sweat suit. He’s appeared in three games this season and played 36 snaps on special teams.

Syracuse brought a travel roster of 80 players, the ACC max, to the game.
