USF fans

After the game on sat night the USF fans were great! They praised Ryan and were guessing about him. They said were have a very good team and wish they had Nassib as their QB and they have BJ Daniels. I guess Ryan will only get respect on this board after he Graduates.

So true Jim. The fans around us said if they had Ryan and we had BJ Daniels, they would have won by a good margin. They said he's a great runner but not a great QB - I was actually surprised how harsh they were considering his numbers against us. They were extremely friendly and complimentary and I didn't talk to one USF fan who liked Skip Holtz.

I bought the Tampa Tribune on Sunday and I thought I'd share some of what they said (hoping I'm not repeating anyone else).

"USF freshman OLB Tashon Whitehurst said he believed he was going to Syracuse- until a week before national signing day in February. Whitehurst chose to stay closer to home. Whitehurst said he gained great respect for Syracuse coach Marrone when calling to deliver his decision. He was excited and happy for me. He said he thought I was going to Rutgers and he didn't want me to go to Rutgers. He said that USF was a great decision but asked if I was sure that's what I wanted to do. I said it was and that was pretty much it. "

"USF offensive coordinator Todd Fitch said Syracuse senior SS Shamrko Thomas is the best hitter in the Big East. He's like a missile Fitch said."

I had one USF fan that said he wanted to punch me for being a Syracuse fan, but wouldn't because my daughter was on my shoulders. I told him I appreciated it. I then sarcastically said that maybe they'd get an ACC invite sometime soon. He said that he'd heard rumors that they may be SEC bound.

So it's not just Rutgers that dreams big.

I said in a similar thread about a month ago that we would miss Ryan next season more than we know. I can't believe there are people who still insist that we won't. Nassib will leave SU with most of our QB records. Considering the company he beat out for those honors, I think that means he's pretty darn good. Rutgers and UConn would both kill to have him under center right now. There are probably a lot of other programs that would too.

What is sad is that Nassib gained those numbers in a rebuilding program era. How can you hate a guy that gets great numbers in a rebuild? Sure, I wish he hit the deep throw more often, but he hasn't always had time - our receivers didn't have time to get deep at times. I'm thankful that Nassib chose Syracuse and Marrone played him.

Part of the great thing about being a fan is that you're allowed to have an opinion even if it smells and tastes like ass. Kind of like my opinion earlier in the season. His turnovers early in the season killed us....but without him I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be sitting at .500. I know when I'm wrong, and when it comes to Nassib I was wrong. I said he couldn't single handedly win a game and he did exactly that last Sat night. 75 yards in less than 2 minutes. 6 seconds on the clock. Only a TD will do and he threw one of the most clutch TD passes I've ever seen. My hats off to him and as of right now I'm officially off the 'better off without him' bus.
