Shafer said Syracuse will do a walk through and meetings on Friday before flying to South Florida. Pregame warm-ups don't change on road.
Shafer on OC change to Lester: "When I made the move originally, it was more about management... and less about the scheme."
Shafer: "I think we're seeing what this offense is looking like and what it can look like. There's all kinds of wrinkles (specific to foe)."
Shafer mentions option game, play action and moving the pocket as wrinkles he likes in Tim Lester's scheme.
Shafer: "I think (the bye week) came at a good time for a couple kids." Mentions Dungey and Philips, but notes they could want another soon.
Shafer on Dungey: "He's had a couple real good practices. Both he and Erv, they look good."
Shafer asked about whether humidity will be an issue at USF. Says the heat in the Dome prepares SU. Easy to agree with him.
Shafer says the SU offense doesn't change much with Dungey/Philips back. The team will just accentuate their strengths in the gameplan.
Shafer praises tight ends/tackles coach Jake Moreland as a "very good teacher of technique."
Shafer says he's been very impressed with the team's perimeter blocking. That's a nod to WRs coach Bobby Acosta. Watching film, it shows.
Shafer said the USF trip give SU a chance to do a bit of recruiting, maybe see a game Friday. Commits Rex Culpepper, Scoop Bradshaw in area.
Shafer says DE Ron Thompson is working on not guessing run/pass. Also needs to use his hands a bit more in the run game. Shining in pass.
Shafer says Syracuse is going to stick with Jason Emerich at center and Rob Trudo at right guard.
Shafer: "The five we start are the five we think are going to play best." Emerich's consistent blocking allows Trudo to stay at guard.
