Utah Gameday...

Start watching at the 9:05 video mark. Rhoa dodges down the alley, Thomson sets a pick & gets run through. I believe this may be when he suffers the injury. He actually gets up & cuts to score just seconds later but you can see his discomfort after the goal.
Brutal. Good call out by you. I’ve been calling him “the slim reaper” for the past few years. 160 pounds is prolly too light for a guy who sets as many picks as he does

I’ve noticed with few top rank teams they run between 8-9 guys on first two midfield lines. Think we should do this (yes question is who), but can be benefit during season keeping guys lil fresher n getting game speed experience on top of creating diff matchups n looks. Feel so many things we can n should be doing but don’t.

Think was hopkins or uva maby running one of their attackman out box later in game who got mismatch n scored cause of it. Stated before feel we need better sub game. As seems we get on n off slow. We don’t seem to play any mind games either. Will say was glad to see mullen stay on at times to keep his guy on so can play 5 x 5. Think we should do this more. Mean we can even sun hottle on n when things are settled have him run off for leo or english or rhoa, so then they get matchup prob they want. Just using hottle as example.

I have no idea if this would work, or not.

But going into next Sunday with Hopkins never having seen it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Either way home gait n company set up great game plan for hopkins. Who has been in some tight games n seem be jelling very well. We’re gonna have to score in diff ways not just in middle. Uva was scoring on some mid range even outside range shots n bouncers.

Tough to have faith in the staff to put together a good game plan. Really can only think of the UVA win in 2022 and the Duke game in 2024 when Gait’s teams looked like they were well prepared and stuck to a game plan.

Just doesn’t seem like their M.O.

I was saying to another fan today… when it came to Donahue as OC, they used to embrace unsettled and transition on offense. At the same time, he was great at drawing up plays that resulted in good looks for his players. With March, I feel like there is literally ZERO structure. I’m not a huge lax tactician but to me, it doesn’t seem like they run any set plays. They are a motion and pick offense.

That said, you still need some ability to draw up plays and create opportunities.

Liked that we used the lead in the third quarter to do a little experimentation with the attack line. One tweak we could see going forward is putting Anderson in at attack when teams double pole the midfield so we have a dodger that could really take advantage of the short stick matchup. Unfortunately that experiment also coincided with the insane stretch of like 10 unforced turnovers in a row so we did not get a great sense of what it would look like.

I liked a lot of what we saw from Anderson, but also get why we haven’t thrown him in during a tight game. His best play was that dodge from up top where he drew the slide and passed to Rhoa who somehow didn’t finish a total gimme. Glad we are not redshirting him this season and think he can certainly contribute going forward, but also get why Thomson gets the starting attack nod. Anderson definitely has the higher ceiling off the dodge, but Thomson gets you a ton as a feeder and offball threat, as well as the looks out of the two man game. In the future if we do throw Anderson in, I hope we find a way to get Thomson out of the box with the middies.

He is also playing in the next highlight after that. Feel like it was just precautionary that we took him out if anything, but we will see.

Is playing a defense to your goalies strength a thing? Mean have two goalies with not much experience. Not sure what mccool or ippts strengths really are as haven’t seen them ton. But shouldn’t defenses plays to force offense into shots ur goalie is most comfortable stopping? If it’s long or mid range shots force defense into those? No defense can totally stop team from scoring but can least limit them into shots ya goalie wants to see n has high percent of saving ?

Only caught pieces of the Harvard game so I didn't comment on it. Just got done watching this one.

Offense keeps getting great looks but just can't convert. I guess at least the majority of the shots weren't low to low which feels like they've been shooting the past couple games. Good to see Hottle get a couple goals. Would like to see McCarthy be a little more aggressive and shoot, he got a step a couple times but just ended up going down and passing it off. Same with Anderson, nice job by him to recognize he had a chance when the defender broke his stick. He had a couple chances in the second half that I thought he could have gotten a decent shot off dodging from X.

Offense does get sloppy though there were some great plays by the Utah defense. Not a good sign that turnovers seem to increase as the season has gone on, and we haven't gotten to the meat of the schedule yet.

Nice bounce back by the defense. Props To Grace and Dwan to recognize the empty net on the ten man and shooting. McCool looked better but much like the first couple of games I don't think he was tested.

Another good game by Mullen, and Angelo won the two draws he took. Would like to see them get the other guys more reps, feels like it's Williams all over again.
