Va Tech PostGame

Seriously insane. I feel like we just took basic strategy and tossed it out. I don’t think Boeheim is the perfect coach. Like you don’t need to follow him 100%, but you don’t need to do everything opposite of what he would do. Like Boeheim would never I mean never sub out Freeman or George in the under 8 minute stretch of the game. He has either no clue what he is doing or zero control over what is happening. As Randolph Childress said on the broadcast they are overthinking and oversimplifying things.
THIS is what I posted earlier this week. Boeheim was good at making sure his best players were on the court as much as possible. Why not? Boeheim was pretty good about making sure his role players knew that PT was linked to things like effort and shot selection. Take a bad shot and sit, etc. Why not?

As fans, we hated it. Then again, as fans, we were also fortunate enough to get to be fans in March also. Maybe we were wrong...

Team showing promise.
Red will turn this around.
Moral victory!

Thats outrageous. I hope someone told him to forget that nonsense.
3-14 yesterday with horrible defense and total lack of hustle. He deserves some responsibility. But Red is the main factor and our lack of organized offense is a huge reason for the poor looks he gets on that end.

after the game Donnie was said to be totally despondent and takes full responsibility for the last 2 losses.
Yeah, his postgame audio was depressing. He's hyper cognizant that he's played poorly and made crucial late game mistakes.

To me, Donnie is example #1 of how this staff has failed. The guy has immense talent, but it really seems that it isn't being harnessed and directed. Every time down the floor on offense is an adventure. Will he launch a 3? A contested fade away? Drive? Work down low? There rarely seems to be a plan or purpose on any possession, so he's left to make it up as he goes along.

If I'm an NBA team I want to get him out of Syracuse ASAP and get him with a staff that can actually develop his game. The potential is enormous.

He had a bad game. Otherwise he and Kyle are our only two guys that have been anchoring us.

He's allowed a bad game.

For those of you saying to not expect things to change quickly/expect bad seasons and growing pains when firing a coach, there are so many examples of this in the ACC not being the case.

Pat Kelsey/Louisville- 27-8 first year
Andy Enfield/SMU- 24-11 first year
Ryan Odom/Virginia- 16-2 this year
Will Wade/NC State- 13-6 (NET is 28)
Jai Lucas/Miami- 15-4 this year

Get the coaching hire right and it absolutely does not have to be a rebuild

Kyle didn't take a single shot in the 2nd half after being 5 for 6 in the first.

The lineup that ballooned our lead to 10 in the first half - with Kingz at the 2 and Betsey at the 3 - was never together again the rest of the game.

Obviously, players have to make shots, rebound, take care of the ball and play D. We did all of that poorly last night. But the HC also has to put players in the best position to succeed and our staff repeatedly fails at that over and over again,

Yep- said this multiple times last night as well and it made sense. VT plays loose and also tries extremely hard to bait you on fouls or getting out of position to beat you off a bounce or screen. The lineup with Zephyr of all people worked well because he played good physical defense and didn’t bite on all the window dressing possession to possession. On offense he was direct and smart with the ball and got it where it needed to go in order to run good sets. He brought a sense of calm too. The moment we went back to George and JJ- they were matching the loose play of VT and that frenetic style played right into VTs hands. Watching Young on the sidelines he could hardly believe it as we shifted to dribble hand off instead of bringing back in the lineup that calmly battled on both ends and made VT earn every bucket and stop.
