Good for him.

Still bad optics.
If it was a recurring theme with Melo, maybe. But I don’t see the big deal if he leaves his seat for one game. Maybe the guy had to use the bathroom and then started talking to people?

Honestly, my first assumption would be he’s a busy dude. He’s shown up all season as much as he can, but he has other stuff going on. Even Kiyan has mentioned that in interviews.

Seems silly to me if people get fixated on Melo leaving his seat and running rampant with speculation as to what that means.

We need to completely clean house, including all of the players! Kiyan Anthony is overhyped.
I disagree completely. We have the players. Adrian just isn’t the coach we need. See when he talks about the energy of a 5 it’s almost like he is begging them to be that way and any good coach I know of demands it. U do it my way or else. Bobby knight ass meets bench, ass tells head to not do that no more type. U don’t coach great being nice. Like being a parent, . U have to be hard on them even though u love them. Why u are hard on them so they succeed.

Kinda odd that this was one game where Kyle was actually working in the post just getting the ball and taking a couple dribbles and scoring in the first half.

I'm not sure he touched the ball once in the post in the second half.

We did try putting him into scoring position by having him drive to the hoop from the three point line... but I'm not always certain that's the best usage of his skill set.

Didn’t play Zephir at all in the 2nd half. That’s the difference in the game. Terrible coaching.

I thought that kid played well in the first half, I'm not sure he even recorded a stat, but the offensive flow just seemed better with him in the game. I hate coaches that don't stick with what's working.

The beginning of the season, we were pleased with the "talent" in this year's roster.
PG is wonderful, team is more athletic...we're beating low level teams by 20+ points!!

And now...?

Aren't teams suppose to get better/gel?
Yet this team has decayed.
Gee...how can this be...? :(

I hope/maybe, Wildhack has a clue this time.

The reason for keeping Kiyan is Dad can financially support the program, including paying a new coach. Also he is a young player with a lousy coach. I'd like to see what another coach could pull out of him. And to the poster who mentioned mom not being at games, I wondered the same thing. Has she given up on the program?
She has a life and she can watch every game on TV. I mean, I took my son to a LOT of travel hockey and lacrosse tournaments without my wife joining. Lala not attending means absolutely nothing.

Yep, the conjecture about Kiyan's parents is silliness. I was thinking last night that I'm amazed Melo has been at nearly every game. The guy has a ton of demands on his time.

didn't watch the game or replay so i'm just having coffee looking at the box score.
first thing i see is we lost. second thing is that we lost in the second half. looking at the team stats is puzzling cuz we took 10 more shots at the same fg % and shot way better deep and at the ft line. steals ,blocks ,assists and TO's pretty neutral. PIP and rebounds good. and then i see the fouls. AHA. big issue ! what was up with the defense ? at any point did we pack it in and flip to zone ? hokies weren't hitting deep (24%).again i didn't watch so i don't know . but as a doctor just looking at the patients chart pretty easy to determine cause of death.

That missed rebound by Freeman on the free throw will stick in my head for a while. I don't understand how a player can be in such an important moment in a game and be so checked out.
The last few FT trips for VT, I noticed Freeman turned his back to the basket and faced up with Hansberry. I think that's why he was mad at George for not coming around and grabbing it.
I've never seen that rebounding tactic and I'm not sure why it was employed. Was this something the coaches drew up or did they come up with it on their own?
Either way, it should not be happening. If the low block guy can't properly box out on a FT, put someone in that spot who can, FFS.

Kyle didn't take a single shot in the 2nd half after being 5 for 6 in the first.

The lineup that ballooned our lead to 10 in the first half - with Kingz at the 2 and Betsey at the 3 - was never together again the rest of the game.

Obviously, players have to make shots, rebound, take care of the ball and play D. We did all of that poorly last night. But the HC also has to put players in the best position to succeed and our staff repeatedly fails at that over and over again,

Funny I remember so many people posting how the culture was going to change when lala was going to bring all her famous friends to the games.

I know that if she had the choice she wanted kiyan to go to usc over Syracuse.

I hope we don’t lose him after this season. He has a ton of potential but is not being properly coached. It’s sad. I don’t like to see coaches or anyone else lose their job but Autry is in over his head. There is way too much talent on our team for us to be losing games.

I think the plan with 3:00 to go in the first half was to take the air out of the ball and bleed out the clock for the next 23 minutes and walk away with a win. It really comes down to analytics.

In conference, the three worst true shooting percentages (FG/3P/FT) players on SU are, in order of better to worst: George, JJ, and Kiyan (by a lot). Conversely, by FGA/100poss, in order of most attempts are: Donnie, Sadiq, JJ, and Kiyan.

This. My parents were more attentive than most and they might’ve both gone to half my junior hockey games and 1/4 of my college track meets. Life happens and travel is an ask.

The only actual story with Kiyan’s parents is that they’re being very supportive of their son.

Go out and support the women’s team. At least they’re a competent basketball team with a great head coach.

They deserve it way more than the men do.
Absolutely-- Good game plans, good coaching, good execution, good player attitude--FUN TO WATCH!

I mentioned it earlier (and could be wrong), but i think a couple games ago he didn't get a rebound late on a FT because the dude went around his back. He kinda went and talked to George after - he was upset.

I think after that, he started doing the thing where he just faces the guy he is supposed to block out. Not sure if the plan is for George to run around and get it or just to squeeze 'em in!
