Villanova 50, Fordham 6

Essentially Yes...the BE couldn't afford to do that (some of the other conferences could afford to do it) at the time. So many ways the BE went wrong, sigh...starting all the way back to the early 80s.

Personally I think if Nova was able to make the big time football scene quality wise the BE could have been very good. Perception and how big is your stadium phallic system college football has going for it would make it a poor move. A lot of poor moves yes but visionary ones as well and failing to meet the status quo with out of the box thinking just didn't bide well with the old guard mindset. The Big 10 adds Hopkins and no one says a word.

The ACC missed the boat on JHU. I was pissed they didn't offer them an associate membership. JHU was waiting for an ACC offer.

glad they didn't get it - screw JHU, they are nothing

I'm sure I'll hear some flack for this but I still think Georgetown in all sports except for football and Navy for just football would be the last piece to get ND all in.

Georgetown is not a P5 level athletic school - they are where they belong with schools like St. John's, Seton Hall, Creighton, etc.

What sports don't they participate in?

don't know - what sports do they compete in at a high level? if not for basketball history, they could drop down to D1AA and nobody would ever notice

Academically very good. Lacrosse solid. Track solid. DC/Washington area solid. Basketball we all know.

sounds like St. Johns (minus the academics) - they are where they belong

Not for nothing, but why doesn't SU schedule a 1-AA from NY instead of PA? Doesn't really make sense. Colgate, Cornell, Fordham are all right here in NYS. And more people would flood the Dome to come see a local school play the Orange. I liked the Stony Brook scheduling, but SU could do better with their 1-AA scheduling.

Ivy League schools generally don't play FBS teams. Yale is playing Army this season, but that is because of the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl. The last time an Ivy played an FBS school was 1991, I think. (Cornell at Stanford).

Maybe Colgate, Fordham, Stony and Wagner have already filled their FBS slot in their future schedules.

I have no idea how good Fordham is, but I do take some degree of solace in the fact that they did not lose or have a tight game against another FCS team.

Fordham was very good last season. They won 12 games and and went as far as the second round of the FCS Championship where they lost to Towson, the eventual FCS Champion. Fordham returned a significant amount this year from last season. Not sure if the QB returned this season or not. But Fordham should be a solid FCS team this season. Nova, I would be surprised if they lost more than 1 game at the FCS level this season.
