Vince Kehres new DC

I don't know names like some people, but I want a guy that knows how to organize and call a good defense. This is one spot where Fran should earn his money. I have the same opinion on this as the oline position. Find a DC that is experienced at a lower level looking to move to the P4. Fran should be able to watch film and see who can run a fundamentally sound well prepared defense that confuses offenses. No read a react. Attack and create chaos.

I don't care at all whether the guy can recruit. That's Fran's thing and he can bring in young hustling position coaches that can do that.
1000 percent agree with this.

Yes, that would not be very inspiring. Seems like he was pushed out at Florida, and if he were that good wouldn't Franklin want him as DC? He has the Don Brown connection so it would not surprise me.
That’s where it is. We are keeping Don around and too have his pupil call defense with Don not full time makes a lot of sense.

So with the new rules, is it possible to have a non coach be recruiting off campus and the coach not be recruiting off campus? I know they have limits on how many, but does staff specifically mean one of the coaches? I know that schools sometimes have had ADs jump in when teams lose coaches, by taking the test to be allowed to contact kids and recruit.

Yes. Caporale is a good example of someone who doesn't coach but is a great recruiter. There are others that have a territory but don't coach.

Question for anybody who knows: for a guy like Caporale who recruits but doesn’t coach, what does he do all day when the team is practicing or lifting? Does he just call and text recruits and high school coaches?

I posted about that last year in the thread about our coaches visiting schools. So many pix of the "non-coaches" at the schools, I was confused about how many we could have on the road meeting in-person with HS coaches and the players at their places.

Hey what about these two guys? I know the first one was already mentioned, and Wood may be a tall task since that means going against Texas money.

Vince Kehres - Doesn't he looks a bit like a young Gerry McNamara
Coach Kehres

Shiel Wood - As I said, not sure we can pull this one off. But think, could be a great hire.
Coach Wood

I like Vince Kehres but so does other schools...How bout these 2
Colin Hitschler & Chris o'leary...Also found this guy Andy Buh who seems to be part of Muschamp/Durkin Tree

I'd like someone who runs a base 4-3 defense. Tremble and Deslauriers on either side of Bryant works as a base set. Either OLB can pass rush our drop into coverage as situations dictate. We ran 3 safety sets with a "star" last year despite not really having a viable safety after Grant got banged up.

I would love to get Steve as DC. It would be a sideways move for him though. Guessing he has head coaching interest around the country.
As I recall, he's originally from Staten Island, so maybe a move closer to Family & friends would provide an incentive.

I think AD fits better in a 4-3. Same for McDonald if he is back. Bryant was pretty bad this year. I would hope he is recruited over. I think Tremble is better as an edge.

Tremble us a stud and needs to play any and everywhere. AD gets better by Tremble playing as they're both plus athletes in space and can hit.

We used Bryant completely wrong. He is a downhill mlb ala Ray Lewis (minus the murdering) but we put him in way too much space and asked him to move laterally. I was critical of him as well but always aware we completely misused him. Hell at least he can tackle but he, nor Derek should ever EVER play outside the tackles.

AD is a plus athlete in space? I though speed was a huge issue for him all year.

Take the current money slotted for the DC and then ERob's current salary, assuming he leaves, and give it all to Stoops

Think we put too much responsibility on a true freshman. Athleticism isn't an issue... asking him to read and react to 3/4 of the field next to a single, laterally challenged MLB was.

Think some assume he can't run because he's built like a brick $#!+ house but he'd probably beat half of our safeties in a foot race.
