From Jim Brown's autobiography "Out of Bounds":
"Early on at Skytop, I met Vinnie Choen, who sounds Jewish but he's a black dude from Boy's High in Brooklyn. One day Viinie was leaving a barrack. I was shooting outdoor hoops. I said, "Hey, man, you play basketball? Vinnie said "Yeah, I play a little".
I was cocky. Me and my 38 point average in high school. Already Vinnie ahd a minor gut. I figured I'd own him. Figured wrong. Vinnie was only 6-1 but he had fire in his belly. He could leap, also woned a murderous J. We played until exhaustion, and the beginning of friendship.
Vinnie became my closest partner and my idea of a great young American. Vinnie had no scholarship, either, went on to graduate with honors, become a basketball All-American. Vinnie fell in love with the first girl he met in college, marrie dher. They're still together today. After a styint at the State Department, Vinnie's now the managing partner of a powerful DC law firm. And I had assumed he was just some funny-looking black cat. After Vinnie shaked me, baked mepopped his jumper in my face, I made a mental note:'Don't underestimate, dummy!'"
