By the time NIL was a thing..Red already looked hopeless. He reacted very slow and we’ve always heard he wasn’t great fundraising wise. GMac is arguably the most beloved ex-CBB Cuse player of the last 30+ years…..The timing of the Siena turnaround + the Duke game + Red disaster. Donors are willing to give the most beloved player most can remember one final massive NIL push to save the program.

There is no post-GMac. If Gerry fails, not only do we get left behind but the donors leave. It’d be curtains at that point.

No Better person to attract this type of cash in this moment

Better be shopping at the top end of the Portal Market. With this kind of money, we should be getting top-end talent at multiple positions. Have to rearrange our entire roster. If these figures are true and I currently have no reason to believe they aren't. Then we need to be shopping in a much different market than the current Syracuse and Siena players. If players from Siena and our current players want to come be bench pieces on a winning program, then I am all for that. But from the sounds of this money, we should be going after 4 high-end/difference makers for our starters...

I don't think Red had the sense of urgency that Gerry does for the state of the program. Maybe he did but he never expressed. Only talked about what made his job difficult. Gmac speaks in different terms. Easy to see why Donors are backing even though there's obvious questions about paying style Xs and Os etc.

On the Autry part. Needs repeating how much of a bullet was dodged. There’s a world where we sneak in the tourney and are in purgatory 2 more years.

Very early on alot of us tried to support Autry but honestly it was more we wanted to support the orange jersey and just get some sort of life back into the program. Personally I wasn’t at the age to appreciate his player skills nor was anything he said public facing inspiring. Now it’s the opposite.

It’s 1000% clear right now that the casual fanbase and really everyone that has been sitting on the sideline is supporting not just the Orange Jersey but moreso GMac as a person and a coach.

Agreed it’s a huge gamble.

100% and for all the clowns on the othe threads saying what about developing Betsey or Donnie or even the freshman! They’re so talented they just need coaching ha. Come on people.

Maybe our staff has enough to do developing the guys that worked their asses off last year or the year before.

Have we learned nothing from Gerry. Work Ethic, aggressiveness and hoops IQ first then find the most talented after that. Thats very few kids in the 315 or the 518 for that matter.
