Virginia Postgame

Love the nutrition program this team employs. Surprised he wasn’t eating a Snickers and washed it down with a Diet Coke.
Hey now. Where did you find my post workout ritual?

I’m not sure how you spin this if you’re Kline. Might need to jump back to the NBA to rehab. Outside looking in, I feel like people will be way harder on the talent then we are

Let’s look at his responsibilities and see how he could “spin” this:
1) scouting and recruiting - talk about guys he wanted the staff didn’t. Red has final say in who they prioritize.
2) former student-athlete engagement - Should be fairly easy considering Carmelo’s involvement
3) Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities - general agreement was we had what we needed/hit targets so this is a high mark
4) transfer portal management - see #1.
5) institutional fundraising in collaboration with University Advancement - like #3, probably a highlightable area.

I get that the GM title really, really, really confuses people - but he works for Autry not the other way around. I suspect he’s much more highly regarded than people on this board realize. No idea if he’s still here next year, don’t really care…but if he’s not I think he’ll be fine. It’d be hilarious if he moves on his own to an SEC school with boatloads of resources and potential - I’m kinda hoping for that just to see heads explode here.

Folks blaming Wildhack for hiring Red or Kline for this season’s results are scapegoating because they don’t know who else to blame.

Might be different if Anthony had a body suited for high end basketball, could play defense, shoot consistently, and wasn’t always looking to play hero ball. Glad Red finally recognized that.
Many people said back in the summer that he wasn’t ready to be a star in his first year. All the limitations in his game that were talked about have proven true.

If he wasn’t Melo’s kid he’d have stopped getting minutes a month ago.

I'll tell you what: with even just DECENT coaching, this collection of players could be an NCAA tournament team. No doubt in my mind.

Instead, we are going to waste solid seasons from Kyle, Kingz, and Freeman -- and likely finish with a losing record for the third time in 5 years.

Absolutely. I’d say talent is the least of the issues with this team.

Red said it wasn’t an injury. He just chose not to play Anthony.

Shame it came to this. If there had been coaching at any point between November and now maybe he wouldn’t have needed to be benched entirely in game #24.
Daddy was mean to him

huh? If you dont blame red the coach, kline the GM or Wildhack the AD then who do you blame? The players were a complete turnover Y/Y yet the results are just as awful

I’m going to use this space to actually talk about the game and not go on some big picture diatribe.

Overall I was actually impressed they didn’t get blown out by a team that really fits together like pieces of a puzzle and is clearly well coached.

Nobody is talking about the stellar game Nait “not Boy today” George had. That was the guy we thought we were getting. Of course he wasn’t perfect but he was damn good .

JJ had his usual early flashes of bucket making followed by his standard crash out can’t get the ball above the level of the rim period of play

Donnie looked like some entity that had never seen let alone played a game of basketball took over his body and agency. I mean he was so bad it was hard to understand what I was seeing. How many times did the ball just inexplicably fly out of his hands for no reason? He was crying for a foul every play. He finally makes one shot and immediately gets T’D up? Is this a comedy sketch?

Our center was useless because UVA just threw size at him all day. Not even quality size. Just size. That is all you need when you are facing a player of limited skill

Kings was ok. I do recall him getting beat more than usual on D but it’s hard to isolate if that was his fault or was he covering for some others blown assignment.

I thought Zephyr looked quite steady handling the ball. He looks like someone that might be able to be useful one day.

We are a northeastern basketball program. Basketball matters more up here. Show the game respect and wear suits like what was done for the previous decades. In post Covid, the toughest teams not always the best teams, but the toughest. The coaches all wear suits. You want to be the toughest and the best that wins championships in dominate fashion.
Our program has been in a decade long toilet and you’re ranting about coaches wearing suits. SMH. Good grief

I posted it in the game thread. It’s very simple why he’s not playing. I don’t care what his last name is.
I don’t know what any of those numbers mean but I can recognize that none of them look good for Kiyan.

All this will be over soon. Next year you can complain that Wildhack made a bad hire, bitch about the new coach’s rotations or something else, or whine that the program wasn’t supported properly financially. It’s almost a given.

From a basketball standpoint the main reason we lost today was because Freeman was terrible. The guards were actually decent.
I watched multiple guards of ours airball 3’s late in the shot clock and multiple guards of theirs make 3’s late in the shot clock.

People wonder why our bigs are useless and nothing works offensively. 3 for 11 from 3 today. Even with zero offensive strategy or gameplan we should be able to shoot better than tha.

lol. Everyone talked about how much of an upgrade this team was in the offseason. UVA ain’t Duke. They are more organized than us and have a plan.
