VT Post Game

We beat a team that was within 7 to Vandy (who beat Bama), 4 to Miami (who is undefeated), and beat BC by 21. Things could get interesting. 8 wins in the reg season is a real possibility now. Even 9, if we could just play a complete game for 60 minutes just once this season.

Listen I am not counting the chickens before they hatch. But these next 3 games you have 2 ACC teams at the bottom of the standings and UCONN who we should beat by double digits.

It’s hard not too look ahead but we very realistically could be 9-2 going into that Miami game in the Dome to end the year. Wow
I thought you were off this staff?

We have grown so used to poor clock management in the past, Nixon deserves kudos for milking the clock on our last drive in regulation. We definitely didn't want to leave the Hokies with enough time to move into position to win it after we scored (especially having 3 TOs remaining, knowing Love had already hit a 57 yd. FG this season, and would be kicking in the dome under ideal conditions).

Ref instinctively called him for unsportsman like when he tried to give her the ball she didn't see it felt a bump and threw the flag.
Yeah I’ll leave it there before I get called all kind of names for telling the truth.

Not sure if I’ve ever been on a Dome rollercoaster ride quite like that.

Down 21-3, the Dome did this atrocious inflatable guitar battle promo and I thought this is my Dome rock bottom.

Then that VT DB fell down, Ross-Simmons ran 57 yards and everything changed for the better.

Amazing that they won in spite of me being there.

Never apologize for the game thread.
What happens in the game thread stays in the game thread.
It's for pure unadulterated venting.
The game thread reveals things,

Biggest come from behind win since 2012.

That must have been an amazing halftime speech!
Down 21-3 in the 2nd half, and we outscore 35-10 to close out the game.
Great comeback, saved the season.

Bowl eligible with 4 games to play. An important bowl game is still possible.
Guys are coming back from early season injuries.
We don't seem hideously undermanned. The roster has mostly held up.

McCord with the 1st half interception in the end zone, and then that ball ripped away by a Hokie DB deep in their territory; we could have been ahead at halftime. Early squandered opportunities.

I liked that they let LeQuint Allen basically win the game for us. It was a reminder that we want to be more than a finesse team.

Still didn't see a pump-n-go route, as CBs continue to jump McCord's quick out routes. Gotta call that a couple times to keep defenders honest.

Wax with a couple terrific plays early, seemed to fade a bit late, as he plays his way back into shape. So happy to have him back.

I'm glad he got the fumble recovery in overtime, but I remain disappointed overall with Fadil Diggs. He misses too many tackles behind the LOS where he lets guys get away. He takes bad angles that OT's exploit when run blocking him. I thought he would be SO much more disruptive than he has shown.

Back up and frosh DL continue to go a strong job, learning as they go. We got run over early, but they did toughen up.

Still more special teams problems with a blocked PAT and nearly a second.

As you look at the remaining 4 games - @BC, @Cal, UConn and Miami at home in the final game, I think we should be favored at BC. The Cal game looks tough. UConn seems to play people closely, and then Miami.

It would be amazing to be 9-2 going into the Miami game. That might warrant Game Day. It's do-able, but we have to get back that swagger of the early season or we could trip up in every single remaining game.

So was the subsequent 15 yd. penalty on the Hokies a make-up call?

Also, I haven't seen this mentioned, but the TV announcers pointed out that on the blocked XP, the VT player leaped over the SU line, which is illegal and should have been a penalty.

Yep.
Opportunistic posting.
Reality is, we spotted them 14, at home, against their backup QB & RB, etc, but won an absolutely agonizing nail biter thanks to the grit of LQA & JRS.
It was a WTFW if there ever was one.
Onwards & upwards.
It’s one thing to bitch about how a game is going but there was more than a little declarative takes on the coaching in general and the hire

You guys should just own it, Fran was a bad hire
