The thing that made Shafer a better DC then most was his playcalling. He would dial up blitzes and would never get into a pattern with them.

Bullough just calls Cover 2 and gives a 15 yard cushion to WR's. And then, b/c he is such a defensive genius, switches to a 3-4 b/c he has completely mastered the 4-3 and needed a new challenge.

Stupid move going from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Of our run defense was poor or we had key injuries, OK. But it was our strength against their strength, and then we completely *%#'d up our chances by basically going back to a new defensive front. Our offense and our own mistakes put us in the hole and then our defense had no chance to save us.

This was an awful outing by the staff and the players. But it's hard to take your criticisms seriously because you hated Marrone and you're hypercritical of Boeheim after every loss and even after wins that you deem too close.

I can't say that I disagree with you about CB...but posting as much immediately after an embarrassing loss diminishes your post. Just my opinion.

If that is the case than maybe he shouldn't have been hired. Now HCSS is in a tough position if he has to fell the axe.

i'm still at a loss at What just happened. even being down a 3 year starter we decide to abandon a top 20 run defense and go with a 5'11 freshman olb in a 3-4 defense. someone please explain to me what he was thinking? welsh and robinson may not be speed rushing ends, but they are both pretty good against the run. could have used the 4-3 to blitz the gaps like we do every other down regardless when were in it. totally dumbfounded

remember when we were the ones out game planning L'ville and WVU? Now were the ones getting hammered. We don't have the talent to make up for it, and will always find it hard to go talent to talent with the rest of the ACC. We need great schemes to give us an advantage, and 3 complete and absolute blowouts have more then proved he isn't going to get it done here.

that's what scares me the most. personally i like shafer, and i feel he can get the job done, but surrounding himself with friends makes it very difficult to make a tough decision if need be.

Maybe there is a reason that CB isn't a DC somewhere else!

The other coaches are young and need to be given time. Absolutely no excuse for what happened on defense today.

Eh, from afar it seems to be a similar dynamic. If I had to envision how Shafer would have attacked this offense, Bullough's choice of tactics would have been farthest from my mind. Bullough's effectiveness is a direct reflection upon Shafer, especially due to Shafer's being a defensive coach.

marrone took over the offense about 8-9 games into the season after many What timeouts and bubble screens.
