I agree with what you're saying, but is there anyone out there who thinks we are only trying to be average or mediocre? I don't think the coaches and players would say that it's acceptable. I would hope that the ultimate goal for the program would be to have a team capable of winning the ACC on a regular basis, spend most seasons in the top 25, and occasionally contend for high level bowl games. If that isn't the goal, I don't understand what they're trying to do.And that's the attitude some have and why we'll probably never get to good again. It's why so many don't attend anymore, because mediocre is acceptable.
Mediocre is bad.
Are you implying that there is an institutional problem basically accepting average (for example, hiring Shafer instead of finding a proven top notch head coach and paying whatever it took to land him, or lowering academic standards for football player qualification ala Lou Holtz Notre Dame days to widen the recruiting base)?
