Wake Forest Post-Game Thread

Yeah, I’d say rest all 3 of the injured OL, and let this line play another game together.

The OL won’t be the reason we win or lose @ BC.

Wasn’t thinking about resting anyone. Rather these guys played better. I’ll take Berg but that sure seemed the best the OLine played all year. Move Vet, insert lloao and Bradford. Decide who plays btw Davis and Vet.

ND and Wake were both lost when Shrader went backwards before halftime and took us out of FG range and the opponent got a TD with seconds left and the ball after half.

Our interior OL hasn't played well all year. This game none of the 3 were playing there and we had better results. Some of that is opponent, but some of that was better play.

Positives:

Garrett Shrader made some terrific throws. Good to see him healthier. Receivers didn’t drop many passes. Allen got more playing time. Tucker looked good. Marlowe Wax was everywhere. Jobity made a terrific play. Simmons played pretty well overall.

Negatives:

The timeout before the punt. Not going for 2. Mikel going down. Basically everything else.
Simmons cost us on that pass interference penalty. It would have been 4th and long, and they would have punted. Then.a couple plays later, their qb threw a TD to a wr covered by Simmons.

We could’ve won this game. We just did too many losery things.

Shrader taking two sacks and pushing us out of FG range, botching the clock, missing the FG, and giving Wake time to come down and get a TD before half….10 point swing. There’s the game.

And not going for 2 both times. Maybe we don’t get it, but if we do, we have a shot at the end.

We would’ve won this game if if was played in Sept/Oct - see Purdue and Virginia. We’ve devolved into losers. It’s a mentality. No mental toughness in this program.

Just my hot take.

I dont know. Wake defense is not great. Plus I saw a lot of runs designed for the edge, Tucker bounced some too. You can tell the run game plan was to protect the inexperienced players and not ask them to do too much. Pass pro was good but they struggled when Wake brought pressure.

We're not anywhere near the same team we were in Sept/Oct.

Not sure why people thought IIaoa was better there. The early snap to Allen first possession in the second half was a killer. Got us behind the sticks early. He also missed a block that contributed to the pick 6. Overall Wake was getting to the QB with a 4 man rush. Some times they rushed 3. They would twist stunt and drop a spy on Shrader. They got big sacks on us in that last possession of the half. I thought the staff was effective with what they had to work with. On the deep shots with Alford and Adams we had 6 guys blocking against their 3 or 4 rushers.

Pretty sure Bradford missed the block that led to the pick 6
