Wayne Williams has workout with New York Giants, explains why he left Syracuse football program

Sounds about as mature as Broyld.

Williams said he carried a 2.9 grade-point average at the time he left Syracuse. He said he attended class and that football staffers "did a horrible job checking for us" to track who went to class.

Williams bemoaned the fact Shafer would put more trust in his staffers who checked class attendance than Williams' word.

"They read off a list of people who miss class after a practice, and you're doing some sort of punishment," Williams said. "There really is no debate about it. I just wish (Shafer) was more of a players' coach, tend to your players. It's a time when you can be the dominant ruling coach, but your players want to feel you got their back, too."

I wish him well. I hope he gets over the sour grapes. The class attendance is an issue, but if the checkers are looking for people at the beginning of class and the kids run late often (or vice versa), attendance will always skewed. Still, it would be interesting to hear Shafer's take on the issue as I don't recall anyone seriously blaming their attendance on the HC.

I hate to say this, but how can this kid be 3 classes short of a degree? He seemed to be on campus for about 14 minutes. I know he missed a full season, and there was the JC thing, but I have a hard time buying that.

I am sure that the NY Football Giants and all the other NFL teams will completely buy into that reasoning when they interview him.

Apparently there were only 2 kids that were affected by grades and it was the coaching staffs fault in both cases, WW and Broyld.

Own up to something for once, it's part of being an adult and being responsible for your actions.

Good Lord, my 4 year old has the same excuses.

Maybe FHCSS isn't joining Maryland because this class checking scandal was about to come out.

There's a reason it took him 3 years to get here and just over a year to be gone.

Not that I wont root for someone who comes to Syracuse, or a young man in general, but the interviews involving Broyld and Williams are pretty revealing.

It's simple Wayne, you were either in class or your weren't. The reasoning/excuse doesn't matter. You'd be amazed at the excuses that a 20-year old will throw out there.

If this guy had his way we'd have some more sanctions...

He wouldn't like Babers either who also tracks class attendance. He found that one player missed a single class. His punishment the next day? He had to spend the whole time, when not in class, sitting there reading a book until it was completed.

Maybe I missed it, but it seemed to me that Broyld owned up to his academic issues.

He basically admitted, didn't he, that he just did not like school and simply wanted to play football?

I get the feeling that Coach Babers is a likeable but tough coach.

Ditto.

I agree, a response is not required. I believe Shafer ran a clean progam and ensured attendance in full compliance with the NCAA. Had he not done so, the NCAA surely would have caught on to any infractions and tacked a few more findings and penalties to the overall report. I also believe Shafer, as well as all coaches, ensured the players knew exactly what was expected of them and how they would be evaluated. It would still be cool to hear Shafer's point of view, mainly because he is being disparaged.

The NCAA does not require class attendance. Just passing grades.

Don't know why Nate Mink would write something like this for there is nothing but positive vibes coming from the Cuse program with Dino at the helm.

Also, throwing FHCSS under the bus from someone who was a complete non-factor on the field and in the classroom is totally ridiculous.

So, are you saying that while Broyld was in high school and during his time here he took responsibility for his actions the whole time...OR are you saying that after he grew up a bit and realized he made huge mistakes and finally admitted to them, then he took responsibility and only just recently?
