Gutty performance by the much maligned Syracuse defense. Which went on the road to one of the 15 most difficult venues and at night no less and gave us a chance to win. Ron Thompson, Cam Lynch, Dy Davis, Brandon Reddish and the rest of the defense thank you.
We all knew our offense on the road against one of the top 3 defenses in college football(Ole Miss, Michigan State the other 2) was going to struggle. Obviously this game should be a learning experience for AJ Long. I wish we tried to run the ball more especially after that Eskridge INT but

I can't complain because we were on borrowed time.

Cole Murphy thank you for giving us a legit kicker and you will be on scholarship next year. All of your kicks were high and unblockable good job kid.

Our weapons weren't the problem this was one of those Maddon games where the computer gives you no time and their are turnovers glore and why I always use manual catch.

We may not want moral victories but our program played okay/decent on the road on a prime time stage. We just need to develop a QB to win these games. Long has a chance but we shouldn't appoint him the guy yet.

There are no moral victories. That oxymoron is the wrong way to look at it. Every game has two results:
- the final score and it's impact on your won-lost record and your season goals.
- the expectations it creates for the remaining games and the future of the program.

The Villanova game was a win and thank God it was but it did not create favorable expectations so we reacted to it as if it were a loss. But it wasn't a loss. It was a win that failed to create favorable expectations. The fact that we played Notre Dame, Florida State and Clemson and lost by an average of 15 points after losing game s last year by 14-49, 0-56 and 3-59, (i'm substituting Georgia Tech for Notre Dame). That's an improvement and suggests the program is getting better. It doesn't turn those games into wins but make us thing that some real wins against teams like that are possible in the future.

But the anemic offense we showed yesterday, especially in the second half is not encouraging. We want to get to a bowl game and must now win 3 of 4 to get there and two of those teams, Boston College and Pittsburgh, also have nationally ranked defenses. I don't have that good feeling a so-called moral victory gives me.
