We got a non-conference schedule for 2014...

so 4 unlikely (fsu, ville, clemson, nd) and 8 where we have a shot. winning 6/8 is not going to be easy. ugh.

hoping strong and duke's coach head for greener pastures after this season.

I like that we are playing Duke.. would you rather be playing Miami or VT. Greater possibility of a Win.

Good job Herm Frazier I railed on him last week but he got SU 2 future CMU home games which will really help in scheduling now. With the 1-AA, and CMU for 2 seasons we will have 6 home games banked in those seasons and can work on scheduling a lot easier already having 6 home games for those seasons by playing a road game if necessary.

The best part of the schedule is that Syracuse actually opens up with a low level team for once and its a 1AA which should be even better. The only caveat is we are likely to be breaking in a new QB for for that game and a re-tooled offense, I hope Nova doesnt project well for next season that game could be closer then it looks on paper right now.

Two other points about playing at a MAC school:

1. SU has played at Akron, Toledo and MiamiOH in the recent past, so I'm not sure why it would surprise anyone that SU would do it again.

2. With BCS teams MD (Dome) and ND (MetLife) already on the schedule, SU needed a road game. And there was no way that it made sense to play that road game at another BCS school.

I don't know how you can "need" a road game?

I don't like the MAC arrangement. I'm a champagne drinking ACC snob who doesn't think we should be doing 2 for 1s. We're not in the BCS bottom feeder league anymore. The only school that ever visited CMU in recent history is Michigan State which is part of some Celebrate the State campaign where they're doing the directional tour.

I at least wish the years of the CMU games were announced. Feels like we got played a bit without that.

Oh well, we at least better be 2-0 for once (if 9/6 ends up being a bye).

Villanova played BC tough week 1 this year they are a good 1-AA program but may keep it close especially for the first half anyway. As long as we win I won't care.

Better to break him in against Nova than Notre Dame.

well sure. i'm just commenting on what "is", not what would have been even worse. sadly, i feel like duke would kill us right now.

I hope they don't. I want good coaches in the conference to stick around. Losing good coaches only erodes the conference, and we're only going to be considered as good as the conference is percieved. I'm confident we can get good without conference rivals getting worse.

Okie State and Kansas are going to visit CMU shortly.

Wisconsin is visiting USF in 2017. Nebraska at Fresno State next season. UCLA will visit Nevada and Memphis. It's a new day for CFB scheduling.

Oh I agree 1000%, I am just hoping we can get a game against Nova that looks more like this years game vs Wagner and less like Stony Brook last year.

Let's save the worrying about strength of schedule for after we manage to make two consecutive bowl games or crack the top 25 for the first time in 12 years. I hope these guys bolt.

People piss and moan about everything around here. Geezus we have 2 sure wins in our first 3 games. Short of having Central Michigan the second game of the season this is what we want.

And yes @ Central Michigan should be a sure win no matter what. If it’s not then we have bigger problems then where the game is being played.

The Chippewas are 3-5 right now.

With the new playoff committee looking at who you have played and beaten playing only home games in the non-conference is going to slowly be done less. We will see more teams play 1 non-conference game on the road or at a neutral site. Playing at Central Michigan is perfect if you get a 2 for 1 which is exactly what we got. Miami(Oh) got a 1 for 1 from us in 2005/2006 that sucked, but helped with Ohio recruiting I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about this deal with Central Michigan will allow 7 home game schedules in the future.

We can schedule enough winnable games OOC to go bowling. Wanting the conference to weaken is foolish. If that made any sense, we should have just gone to the AAC.

Correct. And they may be breaking in a new head coach next season.

2014 non-conf sched for @CuseFootball: 8/30 vs. Villanova, 9/13 at Central Michigan, 9/20 vs. Maryland, 9/27 vs. Notre Dame (@MLStadium).

Oh man. Not sure why so many are pleased in terms of the strength of this schedule. Overscheduling again. @ a MAC school and two BCS powerhouses in ND and Maryland. ;)

Cheers,
Neil

i can't help but base my level of confidence on what's actually happened for the past decade. When we can count on 6-7 wins every year, THEN I'll worry about everyone else. Until then, by any means necessary.

We should see who was complaining about our OOC schedule being too difficult this year, and check whether these are the same people complaining about Central Michigan now.

See my response to SaltineWar above.

I tried to defend Frazier last week when so many were piling on.

Hopefully now that our future conference schedules are set we'll be able to plan a little better in the outyears. Just something about that @ CMU, 2 home games against them TBD that doesn't sit right with me. I'm not b!tching for the sake of b!tching. I hope that's not considered my style. And I hear Frozen's point about others playing there. I find it hard to believe that Oklahoma State is going to play at CMU, but I guess it will give the B1G fans something to laugh about, if nothing else.

I'm also not saying it because I think there's any chance in hell we lose that game. We won't. 0% chance. Yes I just said that.

The Maryland game at home was a great score for Frazier. I don't think he got any credit for that last week when he was ripped to shreds.

Hope the easier start bodes well for a new QB, should a new one start. Didn't really work out for Hunt. He was able to have that ease in philosophy with his first 2 starts (and he looked very good), then he crashed into a wall at the speed of Pat White.
