The middle of the zone is vulnerable this year. We don't have the shot blocker like we have had in the past. Chino is still a work in progress tooo.
G, Cooney, Roberson is the offense next year... I cant count on Joseph to hold down the starting PG spot. I pray to baby Jesus that Richardson is the real deal.
There is nobody on this board who predicted 18 and 9 or whatever out of Christmas this year. So I don't put much stock in people telling me "Coleman playing 10 minutes will be a surprise next year". Based on what? How do you know? Blow it out your ears!
At the same time, no one predicted 18-13 either.
I think you are being too hard on Joseph. I think Joseph will be a fine sophomore PG. I think Richardson may cut into TC playing time if anything. G will still be the backup PG and play the 3 spot.
The middle of the zone was vulnerable for much of last year, after it was decided that protecting Rak on the defensive end for his offensive contributions was necessary. The middle of the zone is vulnerable this year. There is a difference between an excuse and reality. The kid was thrown into something that he wasn't expected to have to do in his first year. And his backup was a small forward. Not much margin for error there. In his defense I have never seen anywhere a top 50 guard struggle so much. Defensively he was a disaster and the offense was mostly discombobulated from the get-go with him since he would pick up his dribble way too much or never drive. Fast breaks?
I am tired of the excuses as well. It wasn't like Ennis started the season here and suffered a season ending injury so Joseph was thrown to the wolves. Ask any coach and by mid- Jan these kids aren't freshmen anymore. Even JB said so himself in one of his presser rants around then or early Feb. He has a LOT of work to do to earn more PT and gain JB's trust next season, imo.

When the dome crowd goes wild when chino grabbed a rebound, well I'll say he's a little more than a work in progress. But in the spirit of positivity, he'll be great next year! The middle of the zone is vulnerable this year. We don't have the shot blocker like we have had in the past. The biggest mistake that fans make is to assume that college players will never be any better than what they've seen in the previous season. We've seen 1-2 player each year since the Melo Center opened come back the next year as much improved, often totally different players. The trend won't stop.
Yes -- and Joseph & Roberson are primed for that improvement. Our starting 5 should be OK.
The next biggest mistake is making assumptions in April about which of the in-coming frosh will contribute, and how much. We have seen expectations & projections be way off.
Agreed on both counts.
Malachi seems the most likely, but who knows. We've had highly rated recruits not be ready before. The incoming frosh I HOPE are most ready to contribute are Diagne and Lydon. Now that we've lost out on Bryant, and with McCullough's departure, we'll [need] contribution from those two "bigs."
