We have 4 returning starters and a Top 5 Recruiting Class

There is nobody on this board who predicted 18 and 9 or whatever out of Christmas this year. So I don't put much stock in people telling me "Coleman playing 10 minutes will be a surprise next year". Based on what? How do you know? Blow it out your ears!

The middle of the zone is vulnerable this year. We don't have the shot blocker like we have had in the past. Chino is still a work in progress tooo.

G, Cooney, Roberson is the offense next year... I cant count on Joseph to hold down the starting PG spot. I pray to baby Jesus that Richardson is the real deal.

I thought with all the time Chino had in the gym he would have made a little bigger contribution.

I think you are being too hard on Joseph. I think Joseph will be a fine sophomore PG. I think Richardson may cut into TC playing time if anything. G will still be the backup PG and play the 3 spot.

well in all honesty if you asked me right now to book a non refundable ticket to the 2016 tourney ... i'd pass.

It'd be a lot easier to be confident if these were 4 starters back from a team that was really good, not a borderline NIT team. We need a TON of improvement out of all 4 of them plus big freshmen contributions.

We'll be fine. Too much panic from the usual pessimists. I think Gbinije and Cooney will kill it next year as fifth year guys. Shotblocking is overrated. How'd that work for Kentucky tonight?

At the same time, no one predicted 18-13 either.

McC was always one and done. The only reason anyone thought differently was because of his injury. Rak was a senior, so he was obviously gone. All some people could do was trash BJ and Patterson and now they have transferred. We got the recruiting class we wanted. Bryant was a bit of a loss, but if you are really honest with yourself, history says he would't have been that good as a freshman big man here.

So, we are at exactly the place we thought we would be. The post-season ban is finished and we move on to a season with a lot of upside and some questions. The biggest being Coleman's health. Roberson and G were excellent towards the end of the season. We'll have two 5th year seniors, a junior and a 23-year old in the starting line-up (if he is healed). Plus a top 5 recruiting class. We will also get an idea of how Hop can coach in big-time game situations. This is not a time to be pessimistic. Go 'Cuse!

In his defense I have never seen anywhere a top 50 guard struggle so much. Defensively he was a disaster and the offense was mostly discombobulated from the get-go with him since he would pick up his dribble way too much or never drive. Fast breaks?

I am tired of the excuses as well. It wasn't like Ennis started the season here and suffered a season ending injury so Joseph was thrown to the wolves. Ask any coach and by mid- Jan these kids aren't freshmen anymore. Even JB said so himself in one of his presser rants around then or early Feb. He has a LOT of work to do to earn more PT and gain JB's trust next season, imo.

The middle of the zone was vulnerable for much of last year, after it was decided that protecting Rak on the defensive end for his offensive contributions was necessary.

There is a difference between an excuse and reality. The kid was thrown into something that he wasn't expected to have to do in his first year. And his backup was a small forward. Not much margin for error there.

It all comes down to the front court, if Dc2 can come back healthy and be a force, and if Roberson can take his game to another level, and Diagne, and Lyndon can give us a little something off the bench we can win some games.

The biggest mistake that fans make is to assume that college players will never be any better than what they've seen in the previous season. We've seen 1-2 players each year since the Melo Center opened come back the next year as much improved, often totally different players. The trend won't stop.

Well, it was ton of pressure plus college. Nothing will be all new this coming season. I think he improve his numbers every year. He has potential and more surprise to the upside. He has talent and a terrific work ethic. It's just going to take some time.

Is it me or does it seem like Chino is shorter than he's listed on the roster.

I think the staff has a pretty good idea of where Coleman will be next year. He had been participating in full practices for quite a while. He needed the extra time. Baring a new injury he will be a contributor next season. May not be the player he should have been, but he will be able to help out.

When the dome crowd goes wild when chino grabbed a rebound, well I'll say he's a little more than a work in progress. But in the spirit of positivity, he'll be great next year!

Yes -- and Joseph & Roberson are primed for that improvement. Our starting 5 should be OK.

The next biggest mistake is making assumptions in April about which of the in-coming frosh will contribute, and how much. We have seen expectations & projections be way off.

Agreed on both counts.

Malachi seems the most likely, but who knows. We've had highly rated recruits not be ready before. The incoming frosh I HOPE are most ready to contribute are Diagne and Lydon. Now that we've lost out on Bryant, and with McCullough's departure, we'll not contribution from those two "bigs."

In our "top 5 class", my guess is that Malachi is over-rated, but will be sitting in any event. Cooney & Gbinije will be playing 35 minutes per game. His opportunity will come in 2016-17.
Diagne & Lydon -- a lot depends on what they do in the gym and S&C between now and November.
