We should’ve won today

Free throw shooting aside, 3-19 from three for Kiyan and the two Nates combined just killed us.

This is where we needed Donnie. We settled for so many outside shots and could have used his back-to-the-basket game for high percentage looks. Or going high-low with Kyle.

Kingz settles for too many outside shots where he's off-balance and doesn't have his feet properly set.
 
This is maddening to read.

A lot of you made up your minds about Red, completely neglect all the defensive rotations (coaching), some good offensive looks against the best defensive team in the country (coaching), and every other positive aspect his coaching had tonight. And are solely focused that he must not be “coaching” then to have more shots fall.

Yeah, we lost. It sucks. We didn’t make FTs. That’s frustrating as hell. But we just took one of the best teams in the country to overtime without our best player and probably should have won.

I’m not a moral victory guy, this sucks. But big picture this team could be very good. Can we stop with the fire the coach commentary and right now and talk some ball?

Well said. I’m pissed and angry we lost too, we should have won and the free throws were a killer. But we played hard, intense, tough defense and shot like crap and I still think we should have won. Oh yeah, all this without our best player.

Now can Red improve? Absolutely. He’s got them playing with heart and intense but didn’t love that late game situation. Letting 20 seconds burn off the clock, not pressing at all after a timeout and than fouling their best free throw shooter. Still. The fact I’m pissed we lost shows we’ve come along way and I think we’re gonna be a good team. Also the refs were crap. That travel call turned foul was a huge huge swing.
 
We outplayed Houston. Strong defense. Didn't get bullied. Lost because of the putrid free throw shooting. Can't win if you miss 17 free throws. If we shoot 67% we win by 6 in regulation. The problem is it isn't a one game aberration. Our FT shooting has been terrible most games. It just didn't matter against weak competition.

I think you were watching a different game. Like honestly, I don’t think red did much wrong. He played the guys that should’ve played, took the ball from JJ when he was getting heavy into iso and called some great plays for Kyle. Yeah, missed free throws, but I doubt red doesn’t have them shoot them in practice, the guys just suck at it. Idk I’m reds biggest critic and I thought this game was coached quite well. Even the last play to Kyle was great idea but toddler had an elite level reaction time and reach to block the ball

Let's pump the brakes here. They SHOULD make it to March. A lot of season and a lot of situations to play out between now and then.

I would disagree. No one could teach Shaq how to shoot free throws in 30 years of trying. And he shot more free throws than anyone.

It falls on players not being clutch.

Red coached his best game. I have been a critic, but his rotations, sticking with the hot hand, etc, were the best job he’s done yet..

Our ball movement and offense was the best offense we’ve ever run under red.

Yeah, missing free throws is a BIG DEAL. He also clearly drew up that awful 3 point shot with 17 seconds left. Like, that was the CALL out of the time out.

Even so, MOV would decide the championship game vs the 3rd place game. With Houston playing Tennessee next, their chance to run up the score would be with us.
 
Anyone that says FTs fall on coaching might be the dumbest take in the history of this board. And they practice them a ton just so everyone is on the same page. When does accountability fall on players? Because according to some of you it never should. Should always blame the coach. Free throws are like 3 footers in golf, if you miss it IS YOUR FAULT. No one else. They stunk tonight at the line. They outplayed Houston for majority of the game and missed a ton of shots. Simple as that

I guess I’m failing to see the point. We built a crazy athletic and talented team with the money that Melo clearly gave us. I’m glad we played well, but we blew it on late game coaching failures and missing free throws. Someone tell me how I’m the bad guy here.
