This has to be taking place across the country. You guys are underestimating the lynch mob mentality right now post Penn St. I would be shocked if Boeheim survives this especially since the story is turning towards him and his snarky comments towards victims.

I hope he survives and the University doesn't capitulate to public opinion but it's going to be hard if donors, trustees see it another way.

The University needs to hold out before firing JB.It will all blow over soon enough.

JB will be fired or resign in the next 10 days, this ain't going away and will not get better anytime soon. Just my opinion, not saying I agree with it but the media shitstorm will just be too much

2-3 weeks and the media will get bored and move on to the next big story.

I got a feeling it will happen today or tomorrow. Don't think JB coaches another game.

Turn on any radio or TV station right now. It's really really REALLY bad!

Batten down the hatches. It's going to be a long day. I expect a lot of tv/talk radio blow hards to express their righteous indignation and call for JB's head even though few actual facts have emerged. I don't know enough about the nancellor to say whether she'll cave or not.

it's not her, it's the people who donate to the schools and BOT. The Marty Whitman types. If the money flow dries up b/c someone isn't happy with Boeheim's actions, he's gone. I think it's that simple at this point. I'm sure CTO can explain it much better but i'm sure within the BOT there is opposition already regarding Boeheim's future.

This is not going away.
Combined with Penn State, there is now a new focus on this horrific aspect of child abuse.
Expect federal legislation and/or hearings to come out of this.
And practically every story about any such action will mention SU.

Regardless of whether anyone likes it, Syracuse is now unalterably linked with the issue.
The smart thing for the University and the head coach to do is to be as open and forthcoming as possible.
Both Boeheim and Cantor should make public ON CAMERA statements...confined though they may be by lawyers.
The university should release the 2005 report asap to show it has nothing to hide.

In two to three weeks this will go away. Will be a rough couple ofweeks. Relax.

If it lasts 2-3 weeks no way will the University sit tight and try to ride it out.

It's Boston. They blow everything out of proportion.

And who's doing the bashing? More uniformed types like Maureen Green?

Yup. The only thing that will change things is if it comes out the JB knew in some way.

yeah, they will.
Maybe. But this is still an academic institution that has already gotten bad press this year due to declining national ratings (as unfair as that may be). I'm guessing they will want to do the "right" thing here and will be very cognizant of the national response to the story.

Well the right thing isn't firing JB.That is the opposite of the right thing.JB has nothing to do with ANYTHING that is going on.

Note the " " around the word right.

Knew what? I suspect JB knew there were allegations that Bernie had engaged in homosexual liaisons. It would be hard to imagine that he didn't since these rumors had been out there for decades. I would be surprised if the 2005 SU investigation didn't address this. I wouldn't be surprised if Bernie had admitted to the university investigators that he had engaged in gay sex on "a few occasions." Lacking the tape, Laurie Fine's insistence that Bobby Davis was lying, and lacking any other corroboration what was left? They might have concluded that Bernie was an adulterer and a bisexual. Was that something the university would consider a firing offense? SU isn't BYU. 2005 isn't 1965. New York State isn't Mississippi. If Bernie had been canned on that basis he would have had a heck of a strong "wrongful termination" lawsuit.

I can't believe JB would have tolerated Bernie's presence on staff if there was even the slightest possibility he was a child abuser. But I suspect that if Bernie had admitted to a few "indiscretions" with young men of legal age neither the university nor JB would have had the stomach to oust him at that time and for those reasons.

One wonders how long the new external review will take and what, if anything, it will reveal.

Given proper public statements, only evidence of coverups should sink the ship. If the latter occurs then consequences will not be limited to the Melo Center.

it was yesterday. they moved on to kids from Andover and some nasty hazing story.

If it lasts 2-3 weeks no way will the University sit tight and try to ride it out.
If this lasts 2-3 weeks, the university pulled the greatest PR coup in history.

was is the Dennis and Callahan show?

Yes it was, on D&C yesterday morning.

The Big Show on WEEI also touched upon it last night as well. As expected Glenn Ordway (the host) was ill-informed, making everything black and white and comparing it directly to Penn State. "Boeheim HAD to know." Saying it over and over again. Very frustrating to listen to, I was going to actually call in but decided to just change the station instead.

To Michael Holley's credit - the other host - he seemed to have read up more on the story and potential victims, and was more level-headed.
