WEEI in Boston is crushing Boeheim right now

Again, as Scooch mentioned in another thread, I give two craps about this basketball program if it impacts the diploma that i received from Syracuse. That's the most important thing in my mind. The integrity of the university i went to and how the people respond to this mess. I hope the hoops program survives and flourishes but i won't lose sleep if boeheim loses his job if the university thinks it's in the best interest to relieve him. I hope it doesn't come to this but the court of public opinion will prob play a role in how the university handles this and how it handles the big donors and influential alum.

Again, townies and fans of the program will look at it differently and i totally understand. I was a BC fan for most of my life and never went there so i get it.

Wow...is kind of all I can say to that. I'm not trying to disparage your statement. I just find it hard to believe that any sensible individual could look at the diploma of any SU grad and think less of that person based on this incident. I jus cannot fathom someone making the jump to: "oh, I don't want to hire this person because they went to Syracuse where that Bernie Fine guy was."

Hopefully I'm misunderstanding your post. On top of that, if what you mean is how the University is handling the situation...I still find it hard to believe people would associate that to an individual that attended SU.

I swore I wasn't going to respond to you (for obvious reasons), but I can't help myself.

This post was in specific reference to sports radio. My other post in this thread addressed the national portion where I specifically said it has a larger national presence.

But thanks for your insinuation I was only listening to sports radio. Read the other notes on the topic to get the full context.

Almost nothing on West Coast sports radio this week where I have been. Very little on Mike and Mike yesterday (missed it today) and Cowherd's segment was spent defending ESPN's choices. Yesterday Cowherd spent a total of 4 minutes.

The local guys (in various places I have been) have drops in their updates...no discussion of it on 5 different local shows. I have 3 hours a day generally in the car.

No Giant, that is not the only thing people should be looking at now. Not when you are talking about someone's life. Context is very important. If jb had said the same thing about some kid out of nowhere saying that Bernie abused him, I would agree 100% with you. However, there were 3 investigations prior to this. The P.S., ESPN, and Syracuse University. Jb had every reason to believe what he said. He should not have said it. We all agree on that. But to lose his job for it would be overkill in my mind. He is in a position to do real positive works for abuse victims. I think he needs to do just that. I know that most here calling for his head have never said anything they really regret.

As I said I don't think JB should be fired. But if I'm comparing being a young kid getting molested for years by an Assistant or Associate Head Coach and having that coaches, Head Coach say I'm a liar vs considering JBs life of relative comfort after 35 years of coaching BB, sorry the kid getting molested wins. No one considered his life during that time apparently and because he doens;t fit everyone's image of a clean cut heterosexual man doesn't mean what happened to him is trivial or worthy of being dismissed off hand by anyone.

You're comments about investigations only raise more questions about what was actually investigated and why the prominent well respected assistant coach may not have been prosecuted in 2005 when maybe he should have been. Now maybe Bernie will all of a sudden be cleared of all of this and I'll be happy for it, but who really believes that is a possibility?

I hope this is the exception to the rule, I really do, but lessons learned tells me there's someting fishy about all of this, what who knew, when and all of these investiagtions that cleared him in 2005. Human tendencies tell me thay covered something up and now it's about to blow, just like Penn St..

Well said Dash. The University, and JB have the opportunity to do some good here. Again, the caveat is assuming they did not know...they can do something positive.

FWIW, WEEI's morning show is basically a bunch of intolerant a*holes. They are the single reason that the station is now #2 (and thats only because there arent 3) sports stations in town.

If I ever feel one way on an issue, and it turns out those homophobic bigots agree with that position, I immediately reassess and try to figure out how my position is inevitably *cked.

I wouldn't worry about WEEI.

Why doe's Boeheim have to know? Serial Killers have lived next door to people for years,John Wayne Gacy, The Green River Killer, Ted Bundy etc, etc,, Comments Oh he was a nice quiet Man,Oh he was so polite,Oh he had such a nice smile, Oh what a great neighbor never bothered anybody. Their's also ton's of players that supported Bernie.

i never said i was worrying about WEEI. I was just illustrating that people are talking about this story nationally when they normally don't mention Syracuse for one second. Regardless of the story and the facts, people are making their minds up about this sensational story.

that was my entire point here.

It's cool...I wasnt bashing you. I just was trying to shed some light on the mentality of those guys to the out of towners. But I hear your point.

oh they are racist . your message isn't lost on me at all. After the METCO gorilla story, they should have been fired.

I've been listening to sports radio for 2 hours+ a day (national and local) and it's barely even mentioned. Another instance of people needing to get of their NE centric mentalities.

TODAY. Yesterday it was all over the place. From Today show, to FOX News, to EVERY sports radio show. Lead story after an NFL Sunday.
