Well this is just like my old college dorm

It's incredible that a state spends taxpayer money on something like this.

Some of us recall the days when players were treated as if they really were students and actually lived in dorms with regular kids.

Apparently it was all funded with private donations but I get your overall point for sure.

We have to follow suit! College basketball is a recruiting game and recruiting depends on facilities. Econ 101, if there is a cap on pay, the battle will be waged with amenities and perks.

I'm not too surprised when you realize that the top paid state employee in something like 30 out of 50 states is either a basketball coach or football coach. At the risk of politicizing things... it's pretty clear where this country's priorities lie.

Considering the "students" bring in this money I have zero problem with them having this perk or any while they're on campus. They've earned at least that.

Agreed. The thing is, they aren't regular students. They are essentially in the entertainment business as athletes. If it's coming from the money they are bringing in, so be it.

Unless the rules have changed, I believe that a certain percentage of residents in the dorm must be non-athletes.

There are some non-athletes. From the article "The dorm was funded using private donations and is home to not only the men's basketball team, but 17 very lucky Kansas students not affiliated with the program."

Gee, I wonder if the "lucky Kansas students" might be related to the private donors?

Or if they are part of the (ahem) hosting committee.

Looking at their website, room and board is $10,154 which seems just a bit more pricey than the other dorms :)

LOL @ the people against the players making money off their name.

"The boosters at rich schools will pay the players more!!!"

Pssss...it's already happening, see above.
