Well well well lotta people suddenly on the Bell bus

Is this his dad or grand dad because all I see you doing is building up bell and criticizing everyone else….
Given my post count and history on the board, this is an absolutely hilarious take.

Helluva long con I've been running here.

And please, share some examples of where all I do is criticize everyone else in order to build up Bell.

One thing I love about Bell is I have never seen him pout. He always appears to accept coaching and is really making an effort to get better.

I've noticed this too. There was even one point in the ND game where he went to the bench, Jim said a couple of things to him, and he patted coach on the back as he took his seat. That's great to see.

It feels like Bell can't be praised without a monster caveat about all of his shortcomings, so I acknowledge he has a lot to improve and the advanced metrics consistently bear that out.

But he's shown multiple times this season he has that baseline drive and pop, and he's been feeding Jesse well all season.

Those weren't new skills. They're just more visible because he had such an efficient game shooting the ball.
He can catch and shoot (what we need from him) and he can take 1-3 dribbles and get a shot up, sometimes on the baseline. Baseline drive though? Not yet. Hopefully soon. Being able to drive especially through contact and finish in the paint is not in the cards yet. That’s not what he’s asked to do (or capable of doing) though considering who has the ball most of the time. That’ll come with strength I’m hoping, too.

Are you Benny Williams or Justin Taylor’s dad?

I remember him playing a big role in that early season tourney win when we beat Indiana and Michigan, but kindve fading over the course of the season a bit - but was still a contributor.

Shump and Bland came to the football game after that tourney win and got a huge ovation from the students, of which, I was one.

I remember watching Shump in warm ups and he would nail like 90% of his jumpers, it was crazy. That dude reminded me of my old gym teacher, Mr Griffiths, who would shoot FTs while we were doing laps and barely ever miss. Good guy, Mr Griffiths.

His PER is getting marginally better. But it’s still 12. His other “advanced stats” outside of scoring aren’t good.

This is what I’d say for Bell:

>> there are plenty of roles for shooters only in a lineup, but it has to be balanced with who he’s on the floor with.

>> that becomes harder when he is not good at defense.

>> but he has the lowest or second lowest %s for assists, rebounds, etc.

Point being is this: if Bell is measured against being a shooter, which is how he should be used, that’s fine. Good job by him. But it means that all the other players have to pick up the slack. So that means prob benching Benny quick each game, Brown playing a lot, and needing Judah to be smarter and JT prob bumping Sy out of the lineup.

Yesterday half his role on O was sliding on the perimeter in catch and shoot position. Again, bc JB knows what the kid can and can’t do. When he was getting cooked, JB sat him.

So, if he’s used more for his niche. Great. If he’s hitting shots, keep playing him. If not, he’s a zero.
I sort of found an answer to my question about Bell's PER for the first half of the season vs the second half... sports-reference.com allows you to breakout conference games only (which is our last 6 games, plus the ND game from early December), and Bell's PER is quite a bit higher in ACC action only, as evidenced by the screenshot below.

In fairness to myself, I said baseline drive and pop, not baseline drive to the hoop.

It's definitely not in the arsenal yet for him to get all the way to the cup. I think he's done that maybe once or twice all season.

I want to say one of Shumpert's seasons in Italy he hit something insane like 70% of his threes.

Yeah, I believe JB actually said one time, because they were talking about our graduation rate, that Shump basically left like a class or two short, was making 400k a year and had a great family, but JB got penalized because he didn't take his last class or two.

Sounded like he did well overseas.

That’s fair. Although I still wouldn’t call it a drive. Nit picking though. I hope he keeps getting better like I do all the guys. Plenty of time to see it too.

Good on Chris. He’s improving like you hope a freshman will do.

Shooting ~70% from three in limited minutes will do that for a player.

The PER is nice, but the TRB% going up to a 6.9 from the 4 whatever it was OOC is the most positive sign you can point to IMO. Of course, needs to be much much better, but going up is better than status quo

The bus couldn’t get going last night. Back to the shop I guess.
Kind of like Roberson having a couple of amazing games against Duke, but then just reverting to quiet Roberson and disappearing again. Side note, can't believe it's been 5 6 years since Roberson played here.
