Westhill HS Hazing

Exactly. Thank the lord no one had a video camera around back in the day. Some board members acting holier than thou. They ’ed up. They will pay a huge price. Hopefully they learn from it and more importantly hopefully the kids that were hazed can move on.

This is just my guess, the parents are making a bigger deal about it than the kids. Again, not saying this wasn’t incredibly dumb.

At its essence, this type of hazing is about humiliating and denigrating someone who is in a position of lower power than you. It’s basically beating up on someone weaker. I’ve never understood the gratification that came with that.

There are likely many who go along with it out of fear of being ostracized if they don’t, not because they themselves get a kick out of it. But there are many who truly get off on the humiliation aspect and take great joy in that . Those people are excrement and will go on to raise excrement kids.

That’s all forms of hazing…. You don’t haze up the ladder…

And made the ABC Evening News.
I'm told also NBC Nightly News. Re ABC didn't David Muir grow near that area? Town of Onondaga maybe? There's also a story on the Homepage of The Washington Post with a big photo of Fitzpatrick.

He went to Onondaga Central High School , I believe.

This story is now in the top stories area on ESPN.com.

I find Fitzpatrick's 48-hour thing to be amateur hour. Out of the 11 kids, it's an absolute guarantee that a couple of them were the sadistic ring leaders (I know who it was, and who the father is), and the rest were probably peer pressured to go along with it.

Regardless of when they turn themselves in, the ring leaders should be tried as adults and spend time in state prison. The others should have to do a ton of community service.
Yeah, and I think the ring leader and father have a problem on their hands. Would not be surprised if the dad is prosecuted for obstruction of justice for trying to intimidate a female whistleblower.

Real piece of work.

Wonder who the ring leader is

When reading this, I focus on kids that “escaped “. They could have ended up doing something incredibly dangerous in trying to escape. Run in front of a car. Fallen off a cliff. Or upon separating from the group while trying to escape gotten seriously lost in the woods. Depends on where this isolated spot was.

The part about the knife and gun (whether it's completely accurate or not) is extraordinarily stupid and dangerous. It's so incredibly easy for things to get out of hand and someone to get seriously hurt.

Otherwise, if this was 40 years ago, I don't think people would think this was a big deal at all.
Agreed. Back in the 70s this was probably not newsworthy. I don't recall any malice involved, we were just dumb ass kids doing dumb ass kid things. Heck, businessmen used to drink at lunch and drinking and driving was pretty common.

If you're lucky, at some point you grow up and realize you're a dumb ass, hopefully before you turn 40, and go on to lead a productive life.

Will Westhill even have a team next year I wonder? That’s a large chunk of kids I’m imagining being expelled + do others transfer to say CBA?

I think almost if not all of the players in trouble are seniors who will be gone next year anyways. The entire team wasn’t involved in this incident so unless they totally disband Lacrosse next year, they would still have enough players to fill a team with their current underclass players.
They aren’t a power house lacrosse program, CBA is currently much better than them so unless there are a few very good underclass players who did decide to leave, I doubt most would have better playing time options there than staying. CBA loses less seniors than Westhill too.

These kids are the worst of the worst. Can we send them to Central America tomorrow?

Ludden/Grimes already has a combined Girls LAX team, and I believe they are going to start a Boy's LAX team next season. If someone wanted to transfer to a private school, BL/BG would be closer.

This happened to a few pledges of a fraternity I was acquainted with. Essentially kidnapped thrown in a trunk, they ended up dropped off somewhere in Binghamton/Elmira from Cortland.

Bummer for the kids who didn't do anything and the coach.

There are kids on WH that 100% would play at cba. Not the whole team, but they have talent.

A lesson learned from the Duke lacrosse situation is to always let the facts reveal themselves completely before becoming hysterical. Obviously, all these kids have a right to due process (I assume that's still a thing in America in 2025) and if it comes to it, a fair trial.

That being said, unlike Duke, there is a literal video that the DA watched that he said was absolutely horrifying. So the chances of this being a nothing-burger are pretty low.

Hazing (I'm not talking having a rookie buy donuts or something, I'm talking about violence) in all forms is a joke. The idea that it somehow builds camaraderie is a myth that people tell themselves to justify how awful it was for them.

Educated guess. The hazing has been going on for a while and each class tries to “outdo” the previous. And here we are…
I think this is accurate and I think some of the suspects admitted it happened to them. So the reporting was Mom goes to school, school goes to Sheriff who goes to Fitzy and like him or not we know he smells a camera.

Stupid on so many levels by the "hazers".

Not asking to name names, but did I miss the name of the ringleader and his father in the news or did you hear through the grapevine? I recognize a lot of last names on that roster, but one jumps out that wouldn't surprise me in the least based on my interactions.
