Your signature caught my eye this morning: Big East by birth. ACC by necessity.

Obviously, most of us agree with the sentiment. However, I'm not sure it's entirely accurate either. As a founding member of the BE, Syracuse has been instrumental in the Big East's success. Likewise, the Big East has been a big reason why SU has evolved from a small, private, regional school in basketball, to a national brand.

At the same time, the second part of your statement kind of throws me. "Necessity" was 2003, when SU knew that it had to follow Miami, and BC to the ACC, or face an uncertain future. Today, in 2012, the ACC move is still an act of necessity, but the situation has changed. The Big East no longer exists -- not the Big East we knew. The suits in Providence can posture and puff up all they want, but the fact remains, the conference -- both football and basketball -- is an entirely different entity, and not for the better.

Anyway, I'm just saying that I agree with your signature. But it implies the BE continues. In my opinion, it does not.

The BE started as a basketball conference. Yes, losing Pitt and SU is huge from a football and basketball standpoint. Ultimately, the BE will revert back to its original charter..hoops. The BE continues but I agree, it's not the entity it was in 1995... more the entity it was in 1985.

The big east is NoT reverting back to a bball confefence with the additiions of Navy, SMU, boise st., san diego st. Sorry

I am not talking next year but eventually the football conferences will merge and the BE will be left of of the football game. You really think Boise State and San Diego are long term tenants? Sorry, but that's funny.

I assumed he was being sarcastic.

Good take.

I am thinking of making my signature

Syracuse

Methodist by birth
Nondenominational by Apathy
Independent by Ivy Shun
Big East by Good Fortune
Big East by Bad Fortune
ACC by The Love of God

but maybe

San Diego Frigging State?
Whew, That Was a Close One!

is better. A chatty signature is a bad one. Of course, my current one is even longer...

Oops...went over my head. They are certainly not hoops schools ...but only short-timers anyways. They are your employee who is on monster.com all day long.

I suggested this last year and was told it would never happen because the Big East would never give up the big football money. But I think the big football money will give up on the Big East.

Exactly. There is not one football school in the BE not actively seeking a better spot/conference for the future.
