Great day for football and regardless of the team our our record it is always special to go to the opener. I flew in from CO where we are having horrible flooding and loss on Friday and met up with my family at the camp. Great night great food lots of laughs and good to see everyone most especially my dad in great health and spirit. Saturday morning we took the boat out for a spin and cup of Joe as we hashed over what to expect later that day. Tailgating consisted of brews and pizza at the varsity as we milked the lake for all it was worth that day and ended up arriving later than we had planned.

As to game i came away with a good sense about a few things. First the negatives. We have an Oline that is going to be out gunned in a more than a few games this year. Hickey is no pugh and i would say without a doubt this is the biggest area of concern we have going forward. I watched the young bucks on D and although i still wish we had Sugar Bear on O i do think that we are in good shape with him and Johnson at DE for the next few years. Both of these kids are amazingly quick for their size and with another year under Hicks watch out as they are going to be special going foward. Kicking of course is an issue and i still dont feel as if our specials are special. Fans ok it was beautiful and Wagner but still i was hoping for something more.

As to the positives we have many. I feel badly for Drew but Hunt is without a doubt the better QB for this team. Forget about the results what i saw was a confidence i havent seen in a very long time. He looks in control he looks like a leader and he plays with a confidence that makes those around him better. He just has it. From a skill standpoint he seems to have great vision and pocket awareness. These are skills that i believe you are either born with or dont have. Yes you can improve just look at Ryan but this kid has them in his DNA and he will only get better with time. I was really blown away by him. Running backs are deep and talented. If they played behind a better Oline we would crush people. Love the way that both of the youngsters hit the hole and felt that Ptg found his game although he still looks a little hesitant hitting the hole or picking his reads. Wr the jury is still out. Yes West had a good game but im not sure how much it had to do with him vs the oposition and the fact that Hunt bought him the extra time to get open. I really like Clark. He runs good routes is very quick out of his breaks and has raw speed. Kobena is what he is and Ash continues to grow into the H role. Loved seeing him in the Cool cat O and loved that he threw!

What i think is that this team is going to continue to grow and get better. I do think we can win 6 with a few breaks and i think that Hunt makes everyone better especially our Wr group as that extra second or two that he can buy vs Allen might just make all of the difference in the world.

As to the coaches they are getting it together. Hard to judge in a game like this but we looked like a well organized team on both sides of the ball. I thought that McDonald called a good game and have to wonder if Hunt had been at QB if the Pstate game would have been a W.

See you for Clemson. Go Orange!!

Hunt is going to get better as the season progresses. He gets his eyes down field and seems quick on his progressions. The game does not seem to fast for him so I think he has real upside.

The O Line is what it is and it will make things harder but they are likely to improve as well.

Envy your time on the lake - nice post.

The Cool Cat O. I love it.

Great report. Hope things are ok in Colorado. Floods are no joke.

Thanks guys. I know that many of my post elicit more than a few groans but most are posted to get everyone fired up and discussing what i believe are real issues. As to CO Boulder has had more rain in the last week than i think they had most of last year. Truly devestating and it doesnt look like the rain is about to stop. The camp is on Skaneateles lake which as you know is beautiful especially after Labor day when the town gets back to normal. Im excited for the Clemson game and will see if my Dad and I can make one of the tailgates as i would like to meet everyone that i torture with my spelling and rants!

you said what i have been trying come up with since the very first drive.

the game just looks SLOW to him... almost plays QB the way Billy played PG (during his good year)

Drew Allen has some of the worst pocket awareness I've ever seen. This should be something the coaches could "simulate in practice". He is incredibly bad at avoiding sacks. He would have been better off playing 8-man football than sitting on the bench at OK. Nice arm, but terrible vision. It's a mind-boggling misjudgment by our new staff.

I'm in the camp that believes Allen was promised ... something. I'm sure Paulus was promised ... something as well. I am not in the camp that feels the PSU game would somehow have had a different outcome with Hunt. There were a lot of things that didn't go PSU's way that game. They likely could have beat us by more had we played one game later, etc.

What we need to learn is what Hunt can do, throwing wise, against real competition. B/c we have not seen that yet. At least, it seems he promises us a better chance.

I thought Nassib struggled with pocket awareness as well and it seemed to take him years to figure it out...Allen has one season.

They (Wagner ) sucked what we learned is all questionable .

We learned that Hunt is a better QB than Allen for us. In a controlled experiment!

Nice post. Hunt has instincts that Allen is struggling to learn. Allen may have the better physique but Hunt gives us a lot with his running ability, making a number of plays by running or starting to run, then passing. He was fun to watch. Hope to see you at the Clemson tailgate.

Performance same vs same wasn't close, that's what we learned.

We don't play anybody as bad as Wagner again this season. so our data is negligible

Three possessions zero first downs, 3 pts on a short field turnover start position vs 5 straight TD's.

That's the best data we have.
