What happened to Starling’s shot the last 4 games or so?

Like JJ as a person a lot. He needs to move on….i think he could be the first guard off the bench for a top 5 team. Him coming back next year will take up 14 shots and he’s not going to improve on D here. We can’t take another year of our SG shooting 29% from 3. Much rather put Kiyan at the 2 and hope for the best

JJ is an inconsistent player and has been his entire career. Don't worry, we play two terrible teams next, so I expect him to have good games.

What shot? He is not a shooter. He is not a pg. He can score if he can wind the rubber band up and get by someone. Everyone watches while he and Eddy do their back-and-forth dance and any semblance of team offense just dies. And his D is nothing to write home about.

Everyone on this team is inconsistent. It's why nobody should be buried like McLeod was. He will stink next game but you can't bury him.

It looks extremely flat. He was playing so well for so long. Especially from 3, it’s a rocket…
He is not getting set. He rushes his shot while he is going sideways or somethings forward - it is quite obvious. I think he feels the weigh of the offense on him and he rushes it - many times, because he has to due to the poor offense of the team.

It’s hard to be the focus on offense and still have to handle the ball. He needs someone to deliver him the ball in good scoring spots. Everytime he put the ball on the floor a second defender was coming at him. JJ has to get better. His shooting is very inconsistent and he struggles going left. He’s an extremely poor passer and his defense needs major work. Despite this, he’s our best player. That should tell you all you need to know about this team.

Don't be short changing him now. I mean, one thing he's remained consistent at, and executed to a T again tonight around the 3 minute mark in the 2nd half, was making a layup with his right hand while driving to the hole on the left side of the hoop. Sweet!

He also has no left hand, doesnt even try (this was before he broke it btw)… JJ is a good guard but he has no help around him, making him very easy to guard considering his weaknesses

He has to do too much. There is literally no offense. Its not an argument. Every shot is flat and rushed because the defense can peal off an extra Forward to double or pressure him.

I watched Davis, Bell and Taylor all take turns sitting still in the corner.

This is one of the worst coaching performances I’ve seen across any sport. Its embarrassing.

Starling comes off the bench on a top-20 team. Maybe. Similar to Bell, the negatives outweigh the positives. Building a team around those two as the focal points should have been stamped out as an idea before it was even spoken out loud.

Starling can be a nice player, he just can't be the primary option of a program like Syracuse and expect fans to be happy.

JJ is good against the bad teams in the league and horrible against any team that is coached and talented. We are going nowhere with him as our alpha.

Agreed and it is all on the coach. Rewatch last night, well just a few minutes if you dare, and you will see when Starling sat in the second half, everyone started moving. He came back in and everybody started watching again.

under 10 seconds on the game clock he's going coast to coast and not even thinking about passing. amazing to me other teams can't draw a charge call . tunnel vision.

JJ was dominant last year vs a good UNC team. It was fun watching that game at the dome.

I think the issue here is teams don’t have to worry about a Judah, even Q or Brown anymore. JJ and Eddie can dribble and force shots to their heart’s content but we have three players, 2 forwards and our two guard, sitting opposite the ball with cement boots on the three point line.

Every team knows all they have to do is double whoever has the ball because no one else moves.

And how does red respond when we’re down 11-7 a few mins in? Subs in Carlos and Petar lol

Its infuriating and honestly effortless coaching.

I agree the supporting cast doesn't help but the fact that he can't go left, is a horrible passer, and has low court IQ does not bode well for that guy to be your best player.

Anyway, this is all to say, this is who he is. He is not a star. He's not very good. He's a solid player at this level. Nothing wrong with that.

But that's it. Root for him. Enjoy him. But he's an ok player. And that's it.

Nobody said he is the biggest problem, but he should not be the focus and be all of any offense
Who on this team should be the focus? Just wondering, who you’d like taking those shots?
