What has become of this forum?

Is it becoming another Syracuse.com? There have been more negative posts than positive posts after a hug win. Yeah, EM is not a power house but still . . . CTO posts an article that the coaching transition isn't hurting recruiting and most of the replies call it a lie. SU's dissection of a zone shows their ineffectiveness against m2m. Come on people. It was a WIN!

We just lost to a hated rival a couple of days ago, we have 4 losses for only the third time in the JB era, we beat E Michigan, I'm not sure what you want us to do, throw a parade? It is what it is, we played really well against an inferior opponent, nothing monumental happened last night.

Including the guy pining for giving Autry's son a shot at PG and the guy that agreed with him?
Oh yeah, nothing wrong here

There is nothing wrong with that either -- it's an opinion board, whether it be an informed opinion or not. If you were on that other site years ago and saw how that devolved into chaos, this is nothing. Are we all supposed to be singing kumbaya? As someone who has followed other pro teams and their forums, it is hilarious to me to think that people now think this forum is devolving into chaos because the team has grossly underachieved.

As a general rule -- a bad team will equal a negative forum for any team. I don't see any of the issues that plagued that other site years ago, such as trolling, deliberately annoying with different handles etc. The discourse on here has been constructive.

When people whine about 'negative posts,' i wonder what it is they want/expect to see in a forum. Only Glass Half Full mantra chants, and recaps of previous seasons' accomplishments? How would that be a realistic reflection of the state of affairs? Since none of those people are (100%) idiots, they Shirley must allow that there's going to be some manner of non-butterflies and rainbows commentary, so really, the silliness is that they believe they should be the arbiter of just how much 'negativity' is appropriate.

We had a game against a nobody, where we played very, very well, and did some things i haven't seen in too long. Really quick and effective ball-movement. That was fantastic to watch. And if there isn't a lot of hoopla about that, it's because it was against a nobody, and we've seen us dominate nobodies this year, and then not have that 'translate' to decent opponents. So, yeah, if there's silence, or a lack of fanboy-ish praise, it's prolly because the praisers got stung when they said we were Amazing after similar wins, and before we got smacked back to reality by not-so-nobodies. People are probably gun shy about being optimistic now.

Read SonsOfSamHorn. The Red Sox forum. Incredibly insightful and intelligent discourse that often jumps into very wicked/aggressive banter. After the Sox traded for one of the best pitchers in baseball, half the forum was over the moon. Another contingent was apoplectic, because of the cost in prospects to get him. Both sides are right, and both sides are wrong, and that will continue to be the case until all the players have exhausted their careers and even then, there will probably be no consensus on whether it was a good trade or not. That's balanced and objective: realizing there are multiple points of view on everything and not expecting everyone to agree. It would be mindnumbingly dull and moronic if everyone here were skipping around singing anthems to JB and the players despite what we see on the court.

I don't think some people visit other internet forums too much. Admittedly, I don't either really. However, I have been to some other ones over the years and you wouldn't believe some of the stuff that is out there. Specifically, the Nc St forum a couple of years ago. It was a cess pool.
There's a NY Mets forum that is allegedly official but also not properly MODERATED

On the worst day here it's not as bad as there on a good day.

And that's thanks to the moderators including the UConn crew which helped establish this board oh so long ago.

Our numbers may have dwindled a bit since the SC game since I think some members were seen doing this:

You don't think our game was the HIGHLIGHT of both the hated rivals' seasons?

Just as it will likely be for St Johns tomorrow?

We have the ACC schedule to look forward to

The others are in the "New" Big East and the AACK!

Either the team will improve for ACC play and the tourists or it won't.

That's up to the team and coaching staff and the support people.

The fans only really help by putting fannies in the seats, including at visiting gyms/arenas, and being enthusiastic.

We do our share there for the most part.

If this is a historic season in a bad way, JB etc will have to suck it up and improve for next year.

And so will we.

I'm not sure frankly. Probably Maryland was a bigger game due to proximity. These kids don't get the rivalry. I would be confident and think no big deal if I was Georgetown going into a dead Dome in late Dec playing a bad Syracuse team and bad rebounding team. Plus they have won, what, 3 out of last 4 against us?

Your post would be more meaningful if UConn or Georgetown had played exceptionally well in beating SU. They did not, especially UConn. Syracuse played extremely poorly in both games. Even Boehiem severely chastised the team after the GU loss. If either rival considers it a highlight to have beaten an SU team that played horribly then they have little to look forward to. I, like others, am hoping that we see a quick turnaround for the team and our play improves dramatically both offensively and defensively. Little to be learned from the Eastern Michigan game.

We like to take jabs at our former conference mates, but the new Big East currently sits with 2 undefeated teams in the top 10, 3 among the top 15 and 4 overall in the top 20. Nova is #1 overall and defending national champs. But you know that. My guess is Georgetown will be more amped for one of its two games against Nova then they are over their win against us.

Absolutely. I thought about mentioning the new Big East. Throw in Xavier and Creighton who aren't the norms but obviously solid. I would agree with your Nova theory.

Balance. Both in seeing pluses and minuses and not such extreme swings. 4 loses means no NCAA?

Nonsense. We are Georgetown's national championship game.

I'll admit. Ive used the forum to vent and regret some things. I could work on keeping perspective but i just love cuse sports so damn much.

Exactly. the thing is you shouldn't have to beat yourself up on a forum like this because you may have "vented" and possibly regret some things. It is an internet fan forum -- that's what happens and frankly is expected. Nobody should be concerned that they posted something perceived as negative, then later be concerned that they may be "hurting" the forum.

Fair enough.

The same can't be said of the AACK though.
