Syracuse has lived up its billing as having one of the nation's top offenses. And there have been few bigger surprises in college lacrosse than the dominance Ben Williams has shown at the X.
But a third, and often overlooked, piece to this team's ascent to the nation's No. 1 ranking has been its defense. Syracuse is ranked 11th nationally in scoring defense, the highest it has been ranked at this stage of the season since 2009, when the Orange last won a national championship.
It has not yet allowed double-digit goals, and logic would suggest that if the defense continues to supplement a high-powered offense and terrific faceoff play, Syracuse is going to be a difficult out come tournament time.
