What hindered Tommy DeVito, Syracuse football air attack at Liberty? (what we learned)

Really good article. I'm interested in how TD and the offensive line play this week. I get what everyone is talking about relative to timing and missed opportunities in the passing game and TD being young and in his first start (at least as the top guy). But we have too much talent to go four quarters against Liberty without ever really finding a groove. We didn't run or pass well (obviously).

So, anyway, going to the game this weekend and I will be interested to see how things look. Probably more concerned about the OL but as optimistic as I am about DeVito based on all the things we've read (here and in the media), I'm still waiting for that moment that tells me he's destined to be a true stud for us under center.

I dont think that the staff was upset he slid to try and protect himself in a game that was over. no reason to be aggressive in this game

He did this same re-watch feature last year -- and did it very well IMO. Very in-depth.

Ohhh, the preface to the piece made it seem like it was a new approach.

Strong article but I was confused by this statement about the linebackers:

"These two will benefit from playing a faster team in Maryland next week before hosting Clemson and All-American running back Travis Etienne in Week 3."

I'm guessing he means that playing Maryland's faster players will be better preparation for facing Clemson than another game against a Liberty-like team.

Bailey is really good. Another great effort.
IMHO, this is one of those areas where the Syracuse newspapers should really focus their efforts.

We all know what happened in the games. We all watch the interviews pre and post game with the coaches and players.

There is a real need for analysis, especially well informed analysis.

This is bringing back content we lost when the paper got rid of Dave Rahme. Great to see they are staying with it.

Great point. I miss Rahme.

I think the point he was trying to make was that the slide was late.

The article mentions deflected passes leading to one interception and a second one that should have been intercepted but was dropped. While the game announcers were less than stellar, I kinda sorta remember them discussing TD having some difficulties in getting good throwing lanes despite not being particularly short. This will be something to watch for on Saturday. Pretty good analysis by Bailey.

On a side note, this must be a tough week for Care Taker. While TD got some fair criticism it appears based on Dino's press conference and Bailey's article that a good portion of the miscues were not on Tommy. As a proud father it must be very hard to not come to your son's defence and throw his team mates under the bus. I for one appreciate his predicament and I really do empathize with him. Here's to TD and the whole team eating turtle soup on Saturday!

I’ll never make excuses Tommy was off and there were many factors me or him will never publicly air anything. we win and lose as a team and thankfully we won . Tommy’s locked in the film room and put that chip on his shoulder . I’m sure the entire offense has put it on ! He is a highly touted Qb it comes with the territory . As fans you have every right to enjoy this site and say whatever you want right or wrong it’s just opinions . Tar feather him whatever .. see u in the winners circle Saturday!!

Great read. Seems like he stepped it up a notch from last year’s versions.

Look forward to reading this each week.

This is a pro response right here

If you think back to Dungey's development, I forget if it was his junior year, but it seemed like the offense finally clicked, and then he got hurt. But it took about 4 games into that season for them to really show progress. I think it may take us 3 or 4 games to really get it together. Bad timing for that.

You should run a seminar for athlete's parents who frequent on-line forums. You have an amazing attitude towards the insanity that goes on here. I'm happy to hear that the whole offense is re-focused and ready to fix those mistakes.

If your presence on this board is any indication, Tommy will take the bumps in the road in stride and only use it to make himself get better.

QB's as we all know get too much credit and too much blame and always will. We as fans NEVER know the whole story of certain breakdowns.

I'm excited to see what this offense can do and there will be some more tune ups and tweaks but once this sports car is purring...lookout college football world.

Classy post. Tommy is my man (I am a broken record on this topic!).
I don't expect any player to have their A game every time out. Last night I rewatched the FSU game, which is my second favorite of his games. I highly recommend anyone with doubts to go back and watch it.

Besides his talent, Tommy never wavered in his commitment to SU and I won't waver in my support in return.
Watch out world.

I didn't think it was possible but I am even more proud that Tommy is wearing Orange after reading this response from you care taker. Looking forward to what the future holds for this young man at Cuse and beyond.

I'm not too worried about it. We saw it a zillion times in the Gerg era where once it's clear the other offense is hopeless, the other teams offense dials it back. We were only 6-9 in the second half. Last year we were better in the second half than the first - pace wearing down a defense

if we hadn't seen good flashes last year, maybe more of us would be jittery over a pretty bad day but the beauty of seeing him play well last year coming off 10-3 is that we can chalk it up to sloppy first games we've seen a million times

Yep, we have already seen him get better...

1st Half - 11/26 with 2 interceptions
2nd Half - 6/9 with 0 interceptions

Kid listens and adjusts to Coaching
Coach dials back offense with comfortable lead
