one thing that is frustrating watching live is the open rcvrs on the backsides of the play that we never throw to. Hunt seems to throw to the first read if he is semi open, but there has to be something built into the play for when you have a mismatch. one thing has become clear is that every time a team jams custis with a LB he beats it deep and we havent thrown to him yet. 2-3 times yesterday he beat the coverage with no safety on top. Hunt needs to either look the safety off the primary or stop throwing into the double teams. he got Ish killed early when other rcvrs were running free.

we have several guys who run good routes but dont have great speed, this means less separation and less time for hunt to find the open guy to throw to. maryland had the opposite, they have guys who dont run routes but have great speed. it is the piece that we have to solve. Estime is supposed to be fast but he doesnt run away from anyone on the field. Its just hard to believe that every team we play seems to have 1-2 rcvrs that our db's struggle to stay with and we have gone since MW finding one that any team has an issue covering down field.

Custis is the one that gets that separation with the mismatch we need to start using it.

In the first Quarter there were two balls thrown to SU receivers slanting across the middle right on the money deep in Maryland territory that if caught were TDs. One of them was dropped by Broyl. Instead we settled for FGs. That 8 points right there.

Other than the blocked kick and the 90 yard pick 6, the play of game was a SU interception that became a Maryland reception and eventual score. Another two potential interceptions by SU that went off fingertips of our DB and another juggled by a LB.

The mistakes this team makes is unbelievable. Drops, penalties, missed assignments. Its a high school team

I think every player on the team needs to look in the mirror and take responsibility for their own performance on the field. Hunt can't blame the WRs for drops any more than the WRs can blame Hunt for poor throws.

BTW, I believed the juggled interception was by Crume, who is DL who dropped back in coverage and was in perfect position.

I think most defensive coaches know by now what our plays are where they are going. This falls on the coaching staff. They know that hunt never looks backside on our plays.

That is just not true. Maryland was clearly looking to stop screens and we threw a lot of slants and ran the ball up the gut. They were not ready for the game plan we called, which is why we gained so much yardage. Hunt killed us this week along with unforced penalties. I'm telling you if you look at the tape you will be shocked by the miscues. All McD can do is put the guys in a postion to run the right plays and he did that. The team needs to look at themselves in the mirror and get their stuff together.

if you think I am basing this on Maryland only you would be wrong...I am basing it on a 16 game resume GMD has put up.

Maryland just might be the absolute worst defensive team around and their is a good reason why we performed so poorly on 3rd. down is that they knew what we would run and where Hunt goes to on every read.

We mixed it up pretty good on 1st. and 2nd. but on 3rd. eh!!!! no so much. same plays game after game

I was only commenting on Maryland where we had very few bubbles and ran the ball between the tackles, threw slants, wheel routes, crossing patterns and posts. This game plan was quite different from others. You must realize that Hunt got really cold 4-15 stretch so McDonald to run 79% of the time in the second half.

we really see only a few set plays on 3 rd and from what I can tell he doesn't have the blessing to call audibles....no reverses or trick plays just very vanilla plays. Almost too conservative,at least this game we mixed it up on 1st. and 2 nd. down more.

Hunt has a cannon of an arm on short passes and the only person I know of who throws faster is retired and his name is Nolan Ryan.

Winston is a college pitcher and he doesn't throw 15 yard bullets, but I think he is an ignoramus off the field

I did notice Custis wideeee open over the middle one play... but that ended up being the same play as the long completion to West so I wasn't bothered!

But I 100% agree with you, there were a TON of open receivers downfield yesterday that weren't noticed.

Saying Hunt should see his 4th and 5th option on his progressions is easier said then done. And half the time they are so open is because they are on the opposite side of the field and the defenders are reading his eyes to the other side. You only have so long to get rid of the ball. Sure it's his responsibility as a qb, but for a qb who is still rather young in his development it is asking a ton. Sometimes complexity isn't better. It seems the most successful offenses are the simple ones.

Hunt has tunnel vision like Perry Patterson. Same arm strength too.
