See this being thrown around a lot with respect to realignment discussions. Can someone translate and define?

It means Grant Of Rights.

It's basically a contract where you sign off all your media rights to the conference for a set amount of time. Meaning if you change conferences your former conference still owns your media rights.

With regards to conference realignment, Grant of Rights (GOR) means that schools have signed their media rights to the conference for a period of time.

Taking the most recent B12 contract as an example, their deal includes a "grant of rights" agreement. This means if a Big 12 school leaves for another league in the next 13 years, that school's media rights, including revenue, would remain with the Big 12 and not its new conference.

Appreciated. Now I am able to feel a little less ignorant in life

Those Grant of Rights deals sound a little exorbitant and ridiculous .Could be the next closest thing to selling your soul to Satan

According some legal views on this board, $50M may not pass the liquidated damages test - so why would a 13 year GOR?

I know the B1G's had a fairly substantial GOR in place for some time. Apparently that was one of the reasons given as to why Penn State would never consider leaving the B1G
