What is wrong with jb

JB hasn't changed in years. He's the same guy as who said in the 80's that the best team didn't win, that went after the papers for saying Gerry was overrated, and now for attacking Greensboro. We have this conversation about one of his pressers every year.
Making comments supporting or criticizing our team or players is in his domain - making comments about other fan bases or communities is not a good look, and the fact that he has been doing it for a long time is not an excuse.

You guys defending the point about Greensboro being a dumb place for the tournament are missing this point. This was a losing coach going on a completely out of left field rant about a topic he knew would strike at the traditions of the conference and doing it in a petulant way. For absolutely no reason and for the gain of no one, least of all himself. Why?

I don't get attacking something that is old school ACC. It will isolate the outsider that Syracuse is and will always be in that conference. Especially for a guy on the way out, it's an unnecessary grenade thrown. I mean Swofford isn't an idiot and will recognize where he can have his bread buttered financially. It doesn't have to be done in a way to insult their waffle house arena.

The examples you use above are being defensive about your guys. That's admirable and what i love about Jimmy. Attacking a city for being small and southern and ill equipped is just kicking someone weak. It's a Trump move and bush league.

I'm not saying it's an excuse, but half of you act like this is new territory. He's the same he's always been. Pretty sure he said something similar 4 or 5 years ago when we were just about to join or joined the conference.

he's doing damage on the way out is my big issue. We're not the big dog in the ACC and to throw our weight around about how awful their traditional arenas are is kinda bush league. We were invited into THEIR league. It's not considerate. Bottom line.

Yeah we should just bow down to Duke and Carolina to take it in the rear end. In case you haven't noticed before he said anything we still had a hard time getting calls in this league.

It's everybody's league. Just as much our league as anybody else's. UNC and Duke had their little mom and pop league where everybody feared them and kissed their butts for long enough.

since 2012 FSU, Miami, and ND have won the ACC tourney - not getting calls is not a reason we struggle in this tourney.

Putting politics aside, I most definitely disagree w/ the characterization of this as a "Trump move", in that what JB said was actually factual. ;)Look, Greensboro, NC is NOT the place to hold the annual tourney of the best conference in CBB.
As others have pointed out, it'd be the equivalent of holding the Old BE conference tournament in Providence RI instead of MSG, because the league offices are located there. The OBE had enough foresight to move the BET to NYC, and the rest is history. IOW, to be "big time" you have to think you're big time.
Trust me, I live in this neck of the woods, and as NC evolves and becomes more of a destination/transplant state, it's sometimes necessary to drag the locals literally kicking and screaming into the new reality.
Goober, Barney, Andy, and Aunt Bea, as quaint and charming as that life once was, are not walking through that door. Time for the old skool ACC diehards to recognize that fact, face reality, and act accordingly.

My point isnt about Greensboro its about JB ranting about something each news conference that either is out of context, mean spirited, or condescending. He has always been ly but recently he just seems to act like a .

Not a rant.
Not out of context (he was asked about it).
Not mean spirited.
Not condescending.
Not out of left field (see Not out of context.)
Not petulant.
Other than that you guys really nailed it.

Here you you go. Verbatim. Shield your eyes from the horror. Better yet, actually watch it if you dare. Careful though. You might get some context.

COACH BOEHEIM: I think New York's a great place. Obviously, we get some fans here. It doesn't matter in terms of who wins. I just think New York City is a great venue for our tournament. I think the big city is where it should be played. I think it should be played here, Washington, Atlanta. That's where the tournament should be played.

I'm not going to be around much longer to care about it, but I think that's where the value is. I think there's a huge value in playing the tournament in those places. There's no value in playing Greensboro, none. It's there because the league's been there and the office is there, and they have 150 people that the ACC needs. That's why it's there. It should not be there.

You get in the media centers and the recruiting centers, how many players do they have in Greensboro? I mean, New York, Washington, Atlanta, that's where the media centers are. Madison Square Garden made the Big East conference. There's a couple other factors, but made the Big East conference.

And I'm saying all that because I don't give a . I'm just saying what's right. That's what's right. Why do you think the Big Ten is coming into New York? It's business, good business sense. They all say it's a business. Well, then, let's start acting like it's a business.

Seems like the best strategy for Syracuse would be not to allow JB into the press room after a loss, or is it after wins also?

You missed the point. I wasn't talking about the tournament. I was talking in general about the ACC. There's a few posters here that claim we don't get calls in football and basketball because we are the new kid on the block. Now those people think we are going to be even in more trouble because our coach said something in the presser. Frankly I don't care. I more care about how we can get the program out of the mediocrity we have been mired in for 3 years than what the coach says.

Out of left field? He was asked a question about having the tournament in NYC and he responded. And he would have answered the same way if we had beaten Miami yesterday.

On the JB scale of rants, where 10 is "overrated" ... this was only a 3.

Really you trash Greensboro. Why. Im so disappointed in him. He comes across as a bitter mean spirited SOB.
This is the same guy who wrote me when my wife passed. Who raises significant money and awareness for the cancer fight. I don't get it. This is not our coach. I hate to see him like this. It truly saddens me as i know he is a great guy. Someone close to him needs to step up and help him. CTO...
Rumors. Smoke.

Classic misdirection. The headlines are all about Boeheim trashing Greensboro instead of Syracuse going out in the first round, again.
So your saying Boeheim is copying Trump's crazy tweets to distract from the news strategy.

As a unc fan the most hilarious part of his petty rant was probably talking about how theres "no recruits" down there. If I was a cuse fan Id be concerned that my coach was so out of touch with national acc level recruiting.Maybe if he tried to start scouring the area for players cuse might finish in the top 6 occasionally in this league he so clearly despises. He apparently doesnt realize just how many local players unc and duke have acquired over the years. This past recruiting class featured 4 players from North carolina in the top 20 nationally.

I get that Greensboro is probably outdated. But the timing after you lose in round one of a tournament thats IN NEW YORK, is pretty laughable. I can imagine Roy williams or K entering the old big east and berating MSG and the roots of the conference-Im sure you all would just love that and be fine with it. Listening to the press conference, it really wasnt taken out of context at all. One only need to listen to his voice crackle in pubescent anger as he spoke the words-it was as if hed been holding this in for a long, long, long time and now was vomiting it up after another early exit.

I love when JB goes off, even if it looks ridiculous at first. This is just sports and a game...don't take things so seriously. Have fun with it.

this is all fun to me. It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things but we can discuss it and agree or disagree w the point of trashing Greensboro while making a bigger point about business (which i agree with).

Considering Swofford already said expect more Northeast ACC tournaments there was no need for the rant.
JB is going thru Senioritis when HS seniors know they are done soon and don't care what they say or do because they will done in months.
These comments come off like JB is done after this year and is free to say whatever he wants.

Greensboro sucks as a spot for us. However UNC/Duke/NC State/Wake/Virginia/Virginia Tech don't mind that location. That is why the city will remain in the rotation.
NYC/D.C./Charlotte should be in the rotation as well.

I'm not sure what the problem is? JB didn't trash Greensboro, it wasn't mean-spirited and it wasn't out of left field. He was talking about the tourney being in NYC and how he thinks it should be played in the major markets. He said Greensboro doesn't add that value or the same prestige. It's 100% true.

Sure, JB should have said "Greensboro's a fine city, but I think there's more value in playing this tourney elsewhere", but it's not like he said the place is a garbage dump and the people are mutants.

I respect the heck out of JB and everything he's done for Syracuse. True Legend.

I've never been a huge fan of his coaching style so I'll just leave that as it is what it is.

What bothers me is how he's completely stopped recruiting at anywhere near an acceptable level for a program of our stature. Do we need to hire a big time recruiter as an assistant, absolutely, but it seems that JB himself is just plain getting out worked and there's no excuse for that.
