What people calling for Carney are really saying

I believe he won four state titles. Also as a senior he was called on to also play defense in the state playoffs. In the championship game he was named both offensive and defensive player of the game.
I’m not saying it will translate to college but the kid is clearly a gamer.
JG3 won 2 state titles as QB also in Glens Falls :). I’m not saying he’s not the real deal but if that was the thing people were hanging their hats on he would be rated a lot higher than he is.

I think it’s his speed that impresses me and I think he may be able to make some better reads.

Leave Rickie in and maybe sub in Luke towards the end of the season. If you put in Luke now and he fails what do you do then? Maybe have Villari run the wildcat. Mix it up and take the pressure off Rickie.

The question is how did we begin this season with such weak QB options? Fran was supposed to be a good recruiter.

I understand that but I thought he went overboard about it & in the process seemed to gaslight everyone else. Maybe his own players who probably knew the truth. It was almost like he over did it to convince everyone, including himself. Like as the late Roy Cohn said (maybe before your time) -- if you speak a lie enough times people will believe it's the truth.
Only in his nightmares did he loss Angeli. Why not puff the guy up all you can, at least publicly. Notice that once we had McCord, we didn’t bring in a competitor. Hindsight tells us what was reallly going on.

NY FB vs Texas FB

Have some patience and give the kid a real chance. He has had two starts. Yes, the Duke game was a debacle where no one on the team looked prepared. That's not a great learning environment for a guy making his first P4 start. Yes, he struggled starting out the SMU game, but he did improve in the 4th. I acknowledge that SMU looked to check out after the 3rd quarter, so you can put an asterisk next to it.
Playcalling early in games has not helped him either. In both games we could have had TDs early if we get better play calling. For example, how many times do we need to fail to gain 1 yard with runs up the gut before we run one outside the tackle?
I have seen enough from Collins to give me confidence that he can be good, but he's going to need a little more time than McCord or Angeli for things to click. Let's see how he comes out after the be week before we run him out of town. How week do you all think we will fare in the portal for future QBs if we start burning through QBs?
Actually continuing to play a QB who can't do the job will hurt recruiting, because players will feel, the only way they will get a chance is if the starting QB gets hurt.

This is the exact rhetoric and mentality that will send us back to another 20 years of total irrelevance - when we get blown out the remainder of the season, which we will, you will watch as all our young talent will portal and the allure of playing for a Fran Brown will mean nothing

OC has to realize and game plan to the fact that we no longer have a stud QB. you can still win if your play calling now features an offense that doesn't require the qb to make great plays. its time to get creative. don't try to push a square peg into a round hole. passing ain't gonna save us. run option.

I think that if we put up a 3-win season, we'll keep getting guys like CDRW, Braden Davis, and Rickie who didn't pan out at SEC schools

Next man up
Yes, this is what we do - we were gonna be in a game with Colgate with a 20 plus point lead until we pulled Collins - we are going to lose with Collins - we don’t no that about any of the other QBs - maybe it’s the same result but we don’t know that yet

we are really basing all this discussion about Collins from the SMU and Duke games - people forget he was pulled out of the Colgate game in the second half
Yep.

Carney showed me more field awareness on one play vs Colgate.
