I honestly do not think he should be fired or resign over this.

He shouldn't get by unscathed, however. His comments lashing out at the accusers were insensitive, especially with the new evidence that has come to light.

If I'm Cantor, I would probably do the following:

1) Suspend him for 1 or 2 games because of his comments.

2) Take his paychecks for that time period and donate them to a Victim's abuse fund.

3) Order JB to take a victim sensitivity training class.

I think everyone will know option #3 would be a bunch of BS... JB isn't going to change his ways

Let him coach, suspend a paycheck and donate to a fund isn't a horrible option, but is that plausible?

PR needs BIG work this week. Story will fade, and hopefully be a non-issue come January

No way on the suspension. JB should make a statement he'll donate money to a victim's abuse fund and leave it at that.

Still think that in 2011 a suspension just intensifies the calls for him to be fired and extend the story, and should be avoided.

Nothing. He did nothing wrong. If there were reason to believe they were victims, then fine. At the time, a reasonable interpretation of what was known is that they were shaking Fine down. I do not understand this ex post facto lynch mob chorus.

Here's what he should do...win the national championship..say I'm out of here and flip off all of the people at the parade who think that #'s 1 thru #3 should occur...

Sorry, I missed my sensitivity class as well...After reading the football posts yesterday and this today..I can't take any more of it..:bang:

Political correctness run amok. Yeah, let's punish the guy because, well, he hurt someone's feelings. He made an apology. Please accept it and move on.

This is why

that anyone with information be supported to come forward so that the truth can be found. I deeply regret any statements I made that might have inhibited that from occurring

It has nothing to do with feeling. People need to look at things objectively around here. This should have been done before the tape came out.

I think he needs to do an interview. Let him explain that because of the 2005 investigation where Laurie Fine said Davis was a liar and because of Davis saying JB saw things, he made those comments. He believed the report. He believed Bernie. He believed Laurie. And he knew that he never saw a thing. Add those together and it makes it look like Davis was lying. What he never thought was that both Bernie and Laurie were the liars.

If he just leaves things as is, it will allow the media to interpret what he meant and spin things based on the reporter's opinion. Which in turn will shape the public's opinion. Don't let the media dictate the story. Tell the real story.

FWIW, an outsider's opinion - I don't think he should be fired. I don't think he did anything to enable this to go on, so I don't think he should fall on the sword for it.

Wouldn't be surprised if your BOT does something drastic though.

He either knew something was going on and should be fired. Or, as I'm sure is the case, he had no idea what Fine was doing and should not suffer any sort of penalty.

They can't take any half-measures. If they give him an 'oh, by the way' suspension for any reason, they imply he's guilty of something - can't do that.

The media will interpret and spin regardless, it's what they do. Dirt sells!

Agree on all counts. We are all saying things based on what we know.

I'm a little surprised by the number of folks who think that JB is gonna come away unscathed by all this.
His comments, although made with best of intentions, were flat-out stupid, short-sighted, & wrong. You don't call potential abuse victims "liars", regardless of the history, simply because you just never know what might happen.
He shot off his mouth in a rude & insensitive way, & now unfortunately he's been proven wrong. What folks here are missing is that Paterno didn't lose his job because of what he actually did, which was follow the "chain of command", but what he DIDN'T do. He was fired for "moral" reasons, & that's why JB's situation is so shaky...he WAS morally wrong to call them liars. Believe me, folks who're not following this story know one thing- alleged sexual abuse"victims", now somewhat validated, were originally called liars by the face of the SU program. Period.
JB shouldn't have said what he said, & in the way he said it. The viewing public remembers the statement & that he used the word "liars"- everything else is irrelevant to them- they don't care. Wanna call that PC, be my guest- but it doesn't change a thing.
He's left himself open for massive criticism, & if anyone thinks its over or that folks will care more about the "context" of his statement, or that he was "technically & factually" correct, then you guys are dreaming.
The next shoe to drop, if this goes badly...& it'll start tomorrow, is JB's firing/retirement/resignation.
No amount of soft-shoeing or bargaining is gonna change that. Oh Lord

Are you allowed to have a opinion?
So he called them a liar.

Im not saying a opinion was the proper way to go but it isn't unjustice.
Its not like the accusers went to the media in a classy way.

I love how people think davis, Lang whoever deserve the best now. Davis slept with Bernies wife for crying out loud. He had a affair with Bernies Wife, says it on live tv while feeling good with a smile and Espn aired it like hes some kind of hero.
But no hes a saint because he has nothing to lose.

They are all not so good. Bernie is gay, Bi, whatever. And unfortuanately that might have started the molestation in the first place. Had he just came out of the closet maybe nobody gets hurt.

As for JB, I am sure the molestation on the road won't be overlooked, but the players seem to support him. It has been said JB isn't a babysitter he treats his kids and staff like men.

I disagree strenuously with several of your contentions.

It was reasonable for JB to believe that the accusers were not victims based on history.

He was not morally wrong to say what he did. I am curious about your definition of morality.

It would be moral cowardice to fire or sanction him now, barring any further developments we do not know about yet.

How was he "proven" wrong? As far as I know Fine is not convicted, nor is even arrested.

I mean the tape is not a good thing but it does not prove any molestation took place. Just stupid comments by Boeheim.

Two points:
(a)We know much more about this story's "details" than the general public. Like I said- its the headlines, the ESPN crawl, & the excerpted soundbites. The general public neither knows nor cares WHY JB made the comments- just how those statements were framed..."liars"- that'll be repeated ad nauseum over the next 48 hrs.
(b) This is now in the hands of the PC police. My biggest worry is that you'll start to hear from victim's advocates & child protection groups, all demanding more action from SU. If Cantor hears a chorus to fire or suspend JB, I have no doubt she will.
Is that entirely fair, of course not. But this isn't totally about logic at this point, its about emotion.
We all saw it in that Doyle article, the first of many to come, IMO.

Again, this is NOT just about logic at this point- we've moved past that. With the first picket sign will come serious repercussions for JB. That's just fact.

You are allowed to have an opinion, but you are not guaranteed an opinion with no consequences. I think there will be serious consequences here. JB went from defending to his guy, to attacking the accusers. He didn't have to. He could have just defended Bernie. When victims rights' groups get spun up on this...I'm not sure he keeps his job.

But from JB's perspective they did lie. Again, here is what davis said:

“Boeheim saw me with Bernie all the time in hotel rooms, on road trips,”

So one of them is lying. if JB is lying then he needs to be fired. And if davis is lying then he owes JB an apology. And you do too.

I agree with this post ... JB believed in a life long friend and his wife... both denied anything happened with Davis... at that point there wasn't any credible evidence to support the allegations... this is a very unfortunate and sad case

ABSOLUTELTY 100% NOTHING!!!!Boehiem DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!!!!NOT ONE!!!!

I don't know what will happen but Boeheim's early comments about this case are going to continue to cause problems for him.

His comments will be forgotten soon enough.Bobby is happy that he retracted his comments. Thats good enough for me.

JB said that if evidence was presented that gave him a reason to change his opinion he would. It now has been and it sounds like he has. That's in line with what he said. He was decieved by his best friend and that has to hurt.
