Honest question here. If, 10 games in, (hopefully this situation doesn't happen), Scoop is shooting 30% from the field, 40% FT, bad A/TO ratio, and Dion keeps lighting it up, will JB make a change? Or just keep Scoop in the lineup with a very short leash?

yea i mean i still think guard minutes are gonna be game by game... whoevers hot will get the minutes whoevers not will have a short leash

You immediately noticed the difference when Scoop left the game.
Dion is a star in the making, but I'd still rather have him coming off the bench.
Why change things?
When you get Good Scoop he'll stay in the game- if you have Bad Scoop, DW will be there to spell him.

pg-triche
sg-waiters
sf-kjo
pf-xmas
c-melo
With the depth we have coming off the bench in what would be scoop, mcw, fair, southerland, baye. That to me looks like a title contender.
Go to guy-look to the wings. Try and shut down KJo or Waiters. take your pick.

*This starting lineup just looks right.

hmmmm...no mention of BT here...I thought BT and Waiters played well together...as importantly, BT looked like a PG...and displayed a smile while doing so...it just maybe that BT is more comfortable as a PG and that he can back-up or replace Scoop in that position...interestingly, JB did not mention Scoop by name in presser...just indicated Waiters came in early cause guy wasnt playing well

Not as much as most people would have you believe. Waiters quote from the AP article, "Me and Coach are getting along a lot better," said Waiters, who lost 10 pounds in the offseason. "Just better communication with each other. I'm glad he did that tonight because I calmed down. I just sat back and listened to what he had to say. He's trying to make you better as a man."
At this point Jimmy is making it abundantly clear to Scoop that he needs to be the better decision maker that he is purporting to be for his senior season. Anyone who cannot see that the team, even at this early juncture looks better for the most part with Waiters in the lineup is not seeing things for what they are. I love Scoop and all he has brought to the program but if he is not responding to the pressure of having other capable players run the team... how is he going to be when all the marbles are on the table later in the season. I think we are witnessing a changing of the guard in progress with MCW and Dion coming of age and blowing up right before our eyes in the early going. It's going to be interesting to say the least.

Nice. I think we will see more Dion vs the pressing M2M teams. Scoop can easily be pressed/defended/hounded. Dion not so much.

If I would venture a guess he cares more about how his team wins games by outscoring the opposition.

Scoop is a 5th year senior. It sends a message starting seniors (even if they aren't the best option to start games).

It also looks good to promote a NBA prospect by starting them.
That being said I would think Dion/BT are fighting more for the starting role, but all three are already on a short leash (not just scoop).

2 game sample size. Relax. Each of our guards is a threat to explode every night. Doesn't matter who's starting.

...may end up being a dull board if JB plays the guards who are doing well that night the most time. I think he made a statement last night...play well, play as a teammate, don't make silly plays...and you play your minutes. Otherwise he will pull you and you sit as long as the other guy plays well.
What was interesting, was that JB gave the ball to Triche...who quickly found Dion...and Dion found him and they both found other players...maybe JB learned a bit last night too.
So root for Triche, Scoop and Dion...and let the better tandem that night play the most...and lets not leave out MCW who by February is going to be even better than he is now.

As everyone always says ... It's not who starts it's who gets the minutes. Scoop was starting PG last year and is designated starting PG this year... He is a 5th year senior. JB is going to start him. Good Scoop will play significant minutes. Bad Scoop will be pulled. Good Dion will get 15-20'; Bad Dion will be pulled; Good MCW will get 15-20'; Bad MCW will be pulled ... etc. with Triche. That is the advantage of having a really deep bench and team. Right now I don't see anyone off the bench (except the walk-ons and Mook) getting less than 10'/game ... at least early on. This team is too good and too deep.

It does matter who you start though. I'd rather not come out of the gate looking like garbage when its avoidable.

I agree ... but JB has a very, very quick hook ... and a very deep bench

Of course this is the case, but it's more a function of Scoop playing some of the most horrific offensive basketball of his career than of Dion somehow being a better fit as lead guard. If Scoop were even playing halfway to his career numbers, the disparity wouldn't be so striking.

I think Scoop has a hard time being a "blend" guy. He is Philly streets through and through and all about, "I got this, Ima handle this on my own."

I still say, we will need him come big games in the Big East, when the lights are brightest.

When Scoop went out...Triche was the lead guard not Dion...Dion is a pure 2

I can't imagine a scenario in which Scoop isn't starting unless an injury is involved, though watching last night I couldn't help but think that any combination of Triche/Waiters/MCW will be our best guard tandem by the end of the season by a pretty wide margin.

For the past 30+ years, it has been quite the opposite. With returning starters who are upperclassmen, JB has a notoriously slow hook, and a very short bench.

no Dion played the point at times yesterday, there is no 1 or 2 with our guards, they are all combo guards
